She is worth it. I went to like 8 trials and loved her. I agree with Eve. You get what you pay for. To me paying $400 for hair and makeup is worth if on the day of, I don't have to worry about my hair falling or my makeup running.

why spend that much money on something some1 can do just as well at a different price..
Your makeup trial pics looked great

I've gone on several trials that I have been THRILLED with. I have one more to go to and they ALL worked with the price for me. The majority of them even said that if I book with them, the money I paid for the trail will be the deposit and 3 of them did my trial for free.. None of that 'It will look better the day of'.. One woman spent nearly 4 hours with me, because I'M PICKY LIKE THAT... Like I said, my bridal party is HUGE and I'm paying for EVERYONE...
Yes, those of you who said 'You get what you pay for' are absolutely right, but I also think, in this case, you're paying for a NAME.. The ladies I've done trials with are just as if not MORE talented than her but are less recognized and don't empty your pocket..

ITA!!! as someone who worked in the makeup industry.. i am VERY PARTICULAR about my makeup.. especially for the wedding... BUT i know there are plenty of other makeup artists that arent as well known that are equally talented, if not MORE talented. im not even going to call her bc of that price.. its just insane... i hope she sees this thread and reconsiders her astronomical prices.

i have to disagree - well i agree that she is expensive if she raised her prices that high BUT i went on A LOT of trials and they all s-u-c-k-e-d my original make up artist was fantastic - so fantastic that he actually got called to go on tour with madonna and had to miss my wedding - so i spent months and a lot of money going on trials all over the freaking place trying to find someone who would compare to him.....M-i-a was amazing compared to the other people that i saw (and i saw vendors that are raved about on here) - and she did a re-trial at no cost when i wanted to try a different look - my make up was worth every cent i paid...i loved the way i looked for my wedding i dont think there is anything wrong with her raising her price - she is in demand and she does great work - why wouldn't she raise her prices?
but anyway everyone is different - i went on a trial with maureen pedala who is even more expensive and if i loved the way she did my make up i would have paid the price for her - so i guess that is where i am different - i wanted to look beautiful for my wedding and as long as i was comfortable with the vendor and i loved my trial i didn't worry about the price - to me that is something you don't compromise - but if you can find someone you like better for less money than of course book with them - but m-i-a happened to be the best out of all the vendors i tried and i wasn't going to let price get in the way of being comfortable with how i looked on my wedding day....

Re: just talked to M/i/a
you absolutely get what you pay for. IMO, the work of ppl like M / I / A, Denise Venti (hair) and Anne DeMarco (makeup) far exceeds that of others whose work i've seen and whose trials I have been on...... And yes, in a sense you are paying for a 'name', but they get that reputation for a reason.
edited to say that by 'you get what you pay for' i mean in regards to those artists that charge as much as they do, you will definitely get your money's worth (of the ones that i am familiar with at least). They are simply good at what they do and are in demand. Didnt mean it in a way that less $ = cr@p. I am sure there are many talented artists out there that charge less and are great.

wow. i have to be smoking crack to pay that kind of money for hair and makeup.
i spent $150 on BOTH hair and make up and not once did my makeup run or my hair fall out.... and i went to a *gasp* tiny salon in massapequa that is by no means anywhere close to popular or well known.
you be the judge - pics are in my album.

Re: just talked to M/i/a
I paid $100 for my make-up and my photographer came over to me at least 5 or 6 times to tell me how well my make-up was photographing and how talented my makeup artist was. I absolutely loved my make-up and don't think i got 'short changed' because I didn't pay an obsene amount of money.
I'm also not putting down girls that did/will pay a lot of money. I think everyone should so what THEY want. if you had 10 trials and only liked the one that cost $1,000, then you should go with that b/c that is what YOU want. but to pay that much and then turn around and tell people 'well, you get what you pay for' is just obsurd.

I think this is all a matter of what you as an individual is comfortable paying. I don't think service is always scaraficed when you pay less for something. There are a lot of talented people out there but it is all what you are comfortable with.
Yes I used M*I*A. Yes her work was fabulous, yes I really trusted her and felt comfortable with her and all the girls she brough with her. Yes it was before she raised her prices but it was what I was comfortable with and not just money wise, but also her end result, having picky people in my Bridal Party that I knew she could work with and please. There was more then just cost involved (for me anyway).
I was quoted as much as $1500 and as little as $75 -- it was what was right for me and you all have to go with what it right for you.

I think some peole get caught up in what a lot of what other LIW brides are doing. I know I did at some points in the wedding process. If I could've afforded M ia or the pedala sisters, I probably would've just went with them without even researching cheaper options, which I'm glad I did. Instead, i went with my own hair person who did my hair and makeup for 200, and I got what I wanted.

ITA with you, Megan. There were times where I was like, 'omg, the LIW girls have menu's, I HAVE to have menus'.
