Re: just talked to M/i/a

IMO, every bride knows which things she wants to splurge on. Everyone has their own areas that are important to them. For some people, it's hair and make-up. U want to splurge on it, go for it! My 'thing' was chair covers. I paid $550 for 120 hair covers. Some people would say that's a lot of $ or a waste of $, but I really didn't care bc it's something that was important to me.

I had hair and make-up people who I had used before and spent $120 total for both. If I didn't already have people who I knew, maybe my 'thing' to splurge on would have been hair and make-up. Everyone places importance on different areas....it's a personal choice.

Honestly, I do regret that I did not go on a trial with M-I-A. When I originally looked into her in the summer, she was available for my date, but I was balking at the price a bit, and was too lazy to schedule a trial. I found out through a date twin actually that now she's booked for our date, so I had to resort to plan B.

I found a makeup artist I was very happy with and booked (ironically, for the same price as M-I-A ), and now I just have to find hair. I'm a little upset that I couldn't kill the two birds with one stone and have someone do both though. Will I look uglier as a result now? I'm sure not. Well I look questionable regardless, but that's not the point. From what I can see though, she's worth the money...if you're willing to spend it. I wish I had acted faster, but I'm sure I'll look great no matter what because I'll be HAPPY, and that shows more than makeup.

i agree with all my fellow 08ers. Pay for what you can. If makeup and hair is important to you pay what you feel is right. I know hair and makeup was important to me because I am picky. However I also knew I wasn't willing to spend more than $200 for either.

I used Jacqueline Nicole who I can say is a total sweetheart and I love her so much. She did wonderful work and she charged for airbrushing $150 and for the girls regular makeup $65 (she might have went up). As for hair I used Jenn the hair genie. Who was also wonderful she definitely was a life saver the morning of. She did an amazing job I LOVED my hair. She charged $120 and the girls $80. I think her prices went up a bit too.

But remember dont book with someone just because you knnow other people are. There are other vendors out there that are just as amazing as the ones on here or the ones on here that dont get alot of attention.

yes thats a lot. But make sure you find someone who does a good job at your trial. You are also spending a lot on photos and want to look good in them. I didn't want to spend a lot on my hair so I went to a salon instead of having them come to me. Usually that makes it cheaper. Just an idea. I also didn't have extensions. not sure if you are or not.

i used m-i-a for hair only since I didnt want to pay a high price for makeup for me or my BMs. however, her hair prices were actually lower than other vendors i was looking at....what made the decision for me was: could my BM's afford it and did i like the way my trial went?

her and her assistant did a great job the day of the wedding---she was worth every dollar spent!

i did go cheaper on makeup and still looked great.

as with all vendors, just spend what youre comfortable with.
because some wedding prices make you but it comes with the territory of long island. LIW's are known for finding ways around spending too much but still getting quality

It's the same approach as you would in wedding dresses...

If you want a Vera Wang then go on ahead and get it...
If you don't then don't...and you can find another option you are completely happy with then more power to you....

some people just want the that 'vera wang' peace of mind...it's gonna be perfect b/c it demands perfection...

I paid $100 for my make-up and my photographer came over to me at least 5 or 6 times to tell me how well my make-up was photographing and how talented my makeup artist was. I absolutely loved my make-up and don't think i got 'short changed' because I didn't pay an obsene amount of money.

I'm also not putting down girls that did/will pay a lot of money. I think everyone should so what THEY want. if you had 10 trials and only liked the one that cost $1,000, then you should go with that b/c that is what YOU want. but to pay that much and then turn around and tell people 'well, you get what you pay for' is just obsurd.

I agree. There are lots of vendors out there...all with varying prices/styles/quality of work. as long as you go to the trial and love the work and are comfortable with the price, that's all that matters.

Re: just talked to M/i/a

Last spring, I won a hair and makeup trial with one of her assistants. While I was there M?I?A? was across the room doing hair and makeup trials...I saw three trials (I was there for a while lol!!)and all the brides to be looked absolutely gorgeous...so I agree that she is really talented. She even told the assistant who was working with me to put bronzer on the sides of my nose (I forget why) and to do something else with my makeup....she is a true artist....I mean I had a MAC trial which wasn't nearly as good, and that makeup artist wanted $175 for just makeup, and didn't even put false lashes on. Is she really expensive? Yes, but she is worth it in my opinion. I wish I had been able to use her but she was booked for my day (which is why I had a trial with one of her assistants). I don't know, I know it sounds like a lot but then again it's your wedding day....and you want to look beautiful in pics and on your video

Re: just talked to M/i/a

i absolutely love M/i/a... she is really an amazing person with amazing talent... worth the splurge to me for sure! if you are looking for quality and you want to feel like you are being treated like a goddess- she does this. she spends her time and i mean really. she doesn't BS her way through stuff and i would recommend her to anyone. all my girls who saw pics of my trial are now also using her the day of my wedding. if hair and makeup is an important factor to you then she is 100% worth it and this is coming from someone who is so picky when it comes to hair and makeup that my mother forced me not to do it myself and go on a trial.

The longer people are in the business the more they want to charge. Mostly all vendors take advantage of the 'W' word.

Hair is one thing, I can see paying for that. I'm doing my own make up, this way as I go through the day I can touch up whenever. I can't see paying someone for that.
