I haven't decided yet, I might be hyphenating or might be taking only his name.

I don't have a middle name so my maiden name will be my middle name and I'm taking his last name. no hyphen.

Re: Keeping your name *POLL*
I'm an aspiring author and it would mean the world to me to be published under my maiden name. He supports me. I may change it later - we'll see.

I'm keeping my name, I'm proud of my family name. Also I think IMHO that its not fair that the woman is expect to change her name.

I'm not keeping my name b/c I guess it's just easier that way! I feel bad that I have no brothers to carry it on, but it's not like an identity thing for me.

I'm traditional when it comes to this - I feel like it is an honor to share his name because it makes us a family. Also, I think it is a nice transition to the next phase of my life. I'm ready to change it!

Re: Keeping your name *POLL*
Keeping it professionally, probably legally adding his on to use in personal life, but honestly, I'm still undecided. Kept my name on wedding license, will decide what to do after the wedding....Tough choice!

I have a middle name but I am adding my maiden name as a second middle name with NO hyphen between it and my new surname. I can use any or all of the names as I see fit.

Re: Keeping your name *POLL*
I'm hyphenating...even though FH is not happy! For work purposes it is much easier. I also don't want to really give up my name!! It's been MINE for 25 years! I think hyphenating expresses how I feel the best - I'm not CHANGING who I am but ADDING to my life!
(Again....if FH's had to change names.....we wouldn't even be HAVING this conversation! Like it's not enough that men feel the need to have son's that are JR.'s!)

Re: Keeping your name *POLL*
I'm not changing it. Fh is ok with it. not thrilled, but supportive. He wants me to change it 'so we can all be one family' when i told him that could be just as easily accomplished if he takes my name, the conversation stopped. I also told him I'd consider hyphenating if he would. But he won't. I agree with EmberLynn. it's not fair, it's archaic, and I'm definitely not going to do it for someone who wouldn't do it for me. I'd be really happy with us both hyphenating though

Re: Keeping your name *POLL*
Mine is a sort of mixed feeling. I really couldn't hyphenate...too many letters involved
