Kids at the wedding

What are you all doing about having little ones at the wedding? We`re very torn between wanting the wedding to have an adult feel to it, and at the same time, not wanting to leave out certain relatives. We thought of having them there but hiring a babysitter to keep them away from the reception. Is anyone else doing this?

Kids at the wedding

I want to have kids at the wedding yet I want the parents to be able to sit back and relax so I too, am torn. We have decided to have a day time wedding (1-6) so atleast the older kids wont get cranky. Restless perhaps but we havent yet thought of any ideas to keep them occupied. A babysitter is a pretty good idea to keep them entertained. Ive heard some ideas like 'activity kits' that you make up for the kids that include stickers, crayons, colorbooks, etc. But how long does this really keep them occupied, right? Not five hours!! Well Good LUck and let us know what you plan to do!!!

Kids at the wedding

I am cutting off the kid-invites at first cousins. Any children that are my first cousins will be invited but I am encouraging the family members not to bring the kids (by word of mouth). It is an evening wedding and probably not really appropriate for children. I also thought about getting a babysitter but a lot of parents aren't comfortable leaving their kids with someone they don't know. Good luck - I hope it all works out for you -

I cut off kids after my cousins but

now I'm getting calls from others asking if they can bring the kids! We offered to get a babysitter but they didn't go for that. How do you saw no? in the last example - the kids are 2 and 3 months - no way they'll stay up until midnight! Why does she want them there?

I cut off kids after my cousins but

I wish I could just leave it at first cousins, but they all have small children now, and are coming from out of town so they can`t just leave the kids at home. I feel like a snob for saying this, but I want my reception to have a classy feel to it, and I`m afraid it won`t if there are small children running around. I love the idea of making activity kits... I wonder how we can keep these children occupied and away from the main reception area for 5 hours though!

Kids at the wedding

A babysitter is a good idea but remember that there could be legal issues with that. If something should happen to one one the kids who is in the care of a babysitter that you hired, not the reception hall you could be held responsible. Especially if the babysitter is unlicensed. My sister considered hiring a babysitter until a family member of her FI (and a lawyer) informed her of legal issues concerning this. Just something to think about.

I just went to a wedding two weeks ago and there were children there. They ran through the dance florr at totally inappropriate times (the important dances, speeches). This totally made up my mind about keeping it an adult wedding.

Kids at the wedding

We are including children at our wedding. We plan on setting a table off to the side for them. The table will have a centerpiece, but will have a bunch of things for them to do (i.e. bubbles, coloring books, slinkies). Usually the music is entertaining for the children as well for a little while. As for the disruptions at key moments, we`re going to depend on the parents to control their kids. One thing to think of....if you`re going to have disposable cameras, keep in mind they turn into toys for the kids, and you won`t want to pay to have those cameras developed. Maybe giving the kids there own camera, so that you can decide which ones to develop and which ones to throw away. Personally I have always pictured having children included in our wedding, and we expect the children to be children, even if it means a few mishaps, that might be cute at the same time. So I guess it`s a personal choice. Good luck with your planning.

It's the bride's and groom's choice

and if you don't want kids there, speak up, you'll feel more at ease!! My FI and I are looking forward to his 10 nieces and nephews being there, but ours is also a smaller wedding (60 people) with immediate family (he has 5 brothers and sisters and all married)and friends. It's also a saturday afternoon and we want a relaxed family atmosphere. And, we are not doing many traditional things like parent dances, and don't have a videographer so if a child runs across the dance floor it won't bother us.

We had 18 kids!!

6 of the kids were in our bridal party!! We did luck out though as far as their ages. We had 2 infants (3 months and 8 months) and the rest of the kids were 6 to 15...no *terrible 2's*!! Do what's best for you and don't worry about what other people think! We wouldn't have had it any other way! :)

Hire a Babysitter

We have out of town guests with very active children coming to our wedding; our solution- we are hiring a babysitter and sending her to their hotel.
