I'm not really sure how to politely say that I do not want kids at the wedding. I want to keep it like.. ages 16 +. Is anyone else doing this? It's tough because I have a big family with LOTS of little ones!

Re: Kids at wedding
no kids at my wedding either. there are lots of little ones in both our families and if we allowed kids to come they'd take up 1/3 of the total guest list! also, my reception is over at 1:15 am and IMO kids should not be up at that time anyway! I have not sent out invites yet but if anyone complains about it, i will state that it is a space issue and will NOT make exceptions (thats usually when you get yourself into trouble)

Re: Kids at wedding
Thanks everyone so much for all your replies. I feel a little better now for saying no to the kids. I have already told one family member and surely my parents and MOH will spread the word as well. I will definitely indicate 'Adult Reception' on the invite as well! Thanks ladies!!

you have a lot of time still ..i would talk to each parent as it comes up in conversation about the kids coming to the wedding so its not total surprise or confusion when the invites go out. most parents with young kids want a night out for themselves. i was not invited as a young kid and was always so upset. so i am allowing kids/letting it be up to the parents. mostly we have kids 12 +. we only have 8 under 12 (3 in the bridal party) and 3 babies. years and years ago kids were always invited - it was and is a family occasion. people say kids are no longer invited because its an adult affair but i think it stopped a few years ago with the price of weddings (but kids are usually free or half price) so i don't know, depends how u see it. most people are used to weddings being kid free these days so it shouldn't be too hard. it gets messy though- i could go on and on about this because i just did my invites though. u just need to know your guest list - u can't say 16+ when the 16 year old has a 15 year old brother and it may be hard if the 16 year old has a first cousin who is 12 and really loves weddings. i am not inviting kids i dont know unless their parent wants to bring them which then, i am going with the flow.
good luck!
wow, what places allow kids free? do you mean kids under 2, or kids period? at my hall they are half price (which is still a lot) and i assumed kids were half price everywhere. i think only 12 and under are half price, so my 15 and 17 year old cousins are full price.

I have a huge family also. My mom is one of nine and my kids have a 4th cousin that is a teenager. As a parent, I don't expect my children to be invited to a wedding. For my wedding, only my kids and nieces and nephews are invited. Otherwise-no kids. On the envelope, don't add 'and family' and they will know kids are not invited.

Re: Kids at wedding
We only had our FG at the wedding- aside from that it was 16+
We conveyed this by word of mouth and also when we did the invitations we only put the names of those invited (for example Mr. & Mrs. John Smith as opposed to Mr. & Mrs. John Smith & Family)
Best thing to keep in mind is that no matter what people are going to try and bring their children.
BE FIRM and STAND YOUR GROUND AND DON'T LET THEM WEAR YOU DOWN!!! People are going to try everything to be able to bring their kids to a wedding.
Trust me everyone will have more fun minus their children.

we are not doing kids at the wedding. We've actually already told everyone that there are only 5 kids that are allowed at the wedding, they are all immediate family members, and we will definitely be standing our ground on this when it comes up closer to the wedding

We are having an 18+ wedding. Honestly, we made it very clear from the outset that kids were not invited. We also had 'adult reception immediately following' printed on our invitations, in case there was any confusion. FH has lots of nieces and nephews, for us, it would have created a zoo to have them there.
