Kids in ceremony but not at reception- etiquette?

Kids in ceremony but not at reception- etiquette?

Fh's two nephews will be in the ceremony, but not at the reception. his sister prefers it that way.

I wanted to ask our cousin's daughters to be a flower girl- except the youngest one, who will be two years old at the wedding, i feel she will be too young. but i'm worried that will insult the mom if i don't ask her too.

the second issue is, we don't want kids at the reception. it will end very late and it will be an adult party. can i have the kids in the wedding but not invite them to the reception? how do i say this?

i thought i had more time to think about this, but my cousin already emailed me and asked if kids would be invited. ahhh!

I dont really know how this works-I know that the norm is even if you arent having kids at the reception the children that are part of your ceremony ARE invited to the reception. Im not going to lie, if my child was a FG for someone and wasnt invited to the reception I would be a bit annoyed but I would get over it.

We had no children at our reception-only our RB was at the reception

The only kids that I was inviting to the reception are my sisters in law and brothers in law (ages 11months - 10 years old)
But Fh's stepmom already told me that she wants to take them home after the church. which, I was perfectly fine with.

i think i might mention the ring bearers will be leaving afterward, and the girls would be the only kids. somehow nicely 'suggest' they might want to do the same.

not flat out say no kids at reception.

I jsut made it clear that there were going to be no children at the reception...i had ALL of my 18 younger cousins at the church that day. They all had little jobs. None of them came to the reception but I had them all at the RD. They felt special anyway. Its the adults that were more of the problem but after the wedding they THANKED ME!!!

sometimes u just need to make decisions and deal with consequences later. ITS YOUR WEDDING!!! DO WHAT YOU WANT!

thanks... i know, this is the hardest thing for me. I am always trying to please everyone.

however this is tricky because this family will make a huge stink if someone gets offended. which will probably cause me more stress in the long run.

i'm going to 'suggest' they get a babysitter for the reception and see what they say. if worst comes to worst, none of the other guests on my list so far have young kids so if i had to have 3 small girls at the reception, i guess it wouldn't be too big a deal.

THis is probably your best way of going about it especially if you dont want to hurt feelings....just be aware that there may be someone who brings their child anyway
