Kids or no Kids....at the reception?

Having some trouble agreeing with my FMIL about this... are you inviting kids? if not what is your reason why , and how are you addresssing the matter ?

No kids....

Honestly, I'm having an adults only reception. I feel that children have no place at a wedding - not to mention holding their attention for a long period of time. The families agreed together that no kids should be invited.

We're a big NO for this one...we're speaking to my FBIL about his 2 girls and then I'm going to speak to my cousins directly to let them know the deal and then possibly even try and arrange a babysitter. I feel really strongly about no kids, it's 4 hours for the reception I think it's OK to ask for no kids.

I totally agree with you both , but she is not budging, our parents are both paying for the majority of the wedding me and my mom say NO his mom says that family is family and you cant expect parents to leave thier kids home just for a wedding , and she would feel akwards not inviting everyone what do I do???

Does FH feel the same as you'?if so have him speak up big time in this since it's his mom, it's 5 hours for a babysitter, sleeping, screaming, cranky kids don't belong at an adult party, I k ow they're paying but it really should be your final decision, I would stand your ground.

we are having kids, but making a cut-off at first cousins on both sides. i could never ask my aunt not to have her kids there, that seems crazy.. so the first cousins have to come. and if i invite MY first cousins of course his should be also. to be honest i have to do this because i am really close with my cousins; if i wasn't so close with them i would have no kids at all. but to keep the reception from being overrun by kids, no kids besides those are being invited. that way it's fair for everyone.

We have a 1year old son. We are only inviting our neices, nephews, & first cousins ONLY! I will not approve of any other children. RH is allowing me 10kids under 10 & i think 5 under 5.

i think this is a common argument so don't feel bad. We are only having OUR nieces and nephews. No other kids. We just said, we don't think it's an affair for children, and it gives the parents a night to relax and enjoy themselves.

no kids besides my niece that is our FG.... It is too expensive to invite kids... because if we invited one set of kids then we'd have to invite everyone's kids and it is just way too much money. We are only inviting people who are over the age of 18.

as of now i am inviteing my 2 cousins and the 2 kids i babysit for.

i have been watching the kids i babysit for since the oldest was 18mths she is now 11 and her sister is 7 . so they are like family to me

they are the same age as my cousins.

We are having my cousins kids who are helping us at the church and that's it! If we didn't invitre them then my cousins wouldn't come and we really want them there.

Other than that, our policy is NO Kids!! Only 18 and older. They will be bored and its too much $$ since we have too many people as it is and would need to cut someone else to be able to include them.

We are just telling the others no kids and if they actually have the nerve to ask why they are invited then its immediate family and they are helping us at the church.

I'm having my niece and 3 nephews as RB and FG, they will be at cocktail hour and once they get announced they will get picked up and leave. The youngest child will be 10 but there is only him and 2 12yrs olds (one my son).

I invited kids, but basically just first cousins and one of my moms cousins daughters who is traveling and having to stay over. But for some reason, having kids just doesn't bother me lol so I don't care. All kids invited I know are not wild or bad behaved so it just doesn't bother me. But if its important to you try to have your FH husband talk to MIL sometimes thats better.

No kids at our wedding. It just worked out that way. We dont have any kids in our families at this time and our friends w/kids are getting babysitters so they can fully enjoy!

The only kids we're having at the reception are the kids in my family. We're NOT having friends kids. It's too much and I don't want a romper room at my wedding

What time is your wedding?

We had an evening wedding and it was our solid position that NO kids would be joining. CH started at 7pm and the reception went through 1am.

My parents paid for the reception and thankfully everyone was in total agreement. I understand that things get a little tricky when people are paying for things...they think it is an automatic license to take ownership and make decisions.

I would honestly try to have a heart to heart with your FMIL. Explain your thoughts and remain firm in your position. It is YOUR wedding. I would also speak with your FH and ask him to back you on this and speak with his mother WITH you. My husband and I were definitely in agreement on everything and handled family together.

We limited it to our first cousins' kids - but the youngest was 6, so no little little kids.
