We're having kids (my nephew the ring bearer and his niece the fg) But we also have a lot of OOT guest because we're military and his family all lives in KY so it's even harder to find a sitter out of state I dont mind though I love kids although if one spills a fruit punch on me I might go bridezilla lol

We did no kids. The way we got around it was that we decided to do an 18 and over party. We ended up having our flower girl stay since her babysitter canceled last minute but you didn't even know she was there.

The reason we didn't want kids is because we didn't want to be responsible if a 13 year old tried to drink to be cool or them taking over the dance floor. PLUS, a lot of people look forward to weddings to get away from children and have a night out of fun. People don't want to deal with other people's children. Anyone that asked if they could bring their child we just told them 'I'm sorry, if we invite all the kids it's too many people and we made the guest list 18 and over.' People surprisingly understood, some were mad but my thoughts were it's not there wedding.

we have my nieces and his nephew...all 5 and under. Then he invited his first cousins ages 10-18 only bc he has a very small family so it filled more seats on his side. My side I had to say no to 3 people about bringing the kids.

The only 3 kid at my reception are my nephew, and both of FH niece and nephew. Oher than that is 21 and older only. NO EXCEPTIONS.

I am having an adult reception only, I also feel a reception is no place for children. But I also am strong about this rule because I can throw in both of our parents faces that WE are paying for this wedding. Dunno how I would take on the situation of no kids if we weren't paying for it. If my parents/inlaws were I wouldn't care really if they want kids they are paying for them then so be it. IMO

same issue.. on my side there is only one baby and hes the RB.. my fh's cousins have a bunch of kids. As of right now we are not inviting kids.(although there is a room with a babysitter but i feel like the parents will be upstairs running to their kids) .. Yet he wants to invite his neighbors 2 kids (8 &10) there adorable and we do see them more then his cousins but i dont get how hes going to justify this to his cousins

We are inviting kids within our family to our wedding, the invite will include them and the parents can decide whether they want to bring them along or have an evening out alone.
My brother and my best friend had babies in 2010, I can't imagine telling them they have to leave my niece and nephew home, it's their decision.

We are only inviting my cousins (who are like in their teens), and our nephew (our RB)

Also his cousin's 2 year old

His SIL is still deciding on whether to bring the 3 month old

We invited no kids outside the fmaily

we are still debating this.....we didnt want any kids at our wedding but we have a 13 month old 2 nephews plus our first cousins have kids who are very important to us, and we love them so we MIGHT invite them....so we are contemplating NO kids....VS. first cousin kids but none of our friends will be bringing kids it will only be family....

I am still on the fence about this. I'm wondering if maybe most people won't want to bring their kids. It's a friday morning so they have school, but I don't know about the kids too young to go to school.

For us, we did it based on closeness. We're actually both the youngest of our cousins on our sides, so we don't have any younger 1st cousins. We are def inviting 1st cousins kids. The only one we didn't invite is an infant. We also have some more distant cousins we're close to, but whom we see on holidays, and we invited their kids too, except for the infants. The youngest kid we invited was my 6 year old niece. we did not invite kids of other distant cousin we don't see as often and we didn't invite infants/toddlers because they just don't belong at the wedding, but the kids who are 6, 8, 10, and teenagers I think can definitely enjoy it and we want them there to share the day. Plus there is nothing cuter than a 6 year old getting down on the dance floor.

We only invited I think about 10 people who are under 18 to the wedding, and I think of those about half will probably not be coming anyway.

I totally agree with you both , but she is not budging, our parents are both paying for the majority of the wedding me and my mom say NO his mom says that family is family and you cant expect parents to leave thier kids home just for a wedding , and she would feel akwards not inviting everyone what do I do???[/QUOTE

It's YOURS and YOUR FH's wedding, not your parents or his, I don't care who is paying!!! IMO, you give in now, you will be giving in your whole life! I had this issue with EX-FMIL too, but they weren't paying anything for the wedding. But even if they were , me & EH FH did not want kids at the wedding. Don't mean to come off harsh, but I had soooo many horrible experiences with EX-FMIL, that I hate hearing when brides wishes aren't respected!

We aren't inviting them, despite my FH having many nephews and a niece (they're coming to the ceremony). We decided that we wanted everyone to be able to relax and enjoy themselves, including the kids' parents. Besides, it's a nighttime wedding that won't be ending until waaaay past their bedtimes. So we just decided no kids, and that was that.

we are. FH wants to - what a nut

he said he had so much fun at weddings as a kid and he thinks that his cousins and whatever should be invited so they can have fun...AKA running around and annoying adults!! i personally hated weddings as a kid - it was SOOOOOOOOOOOO BORING!

We are also only going to invite our nieces and nephew, and thats it. And most likely, they will only be at the church and not at the reception. I know their parents will most likely enjoy a night away and the kids are going to be bored at a party filled with adults.

i have 6 nieces and nephews who will all be walking down the aisle (ranging in age from 3 to 10). thankfully, my fiance and i both couldn't imagine not having them be a part of our wedding, so this was a non-issue for us.

i can understand people not wanting kids at a wedding, though... i think it's a personal preference. i feel bad that your FMIL doesn't agree with you on this matter, and that it's now become an issue.

not that you'd want to take this on, but perhaps you can tell her to refer to you anyone who inquires about bringing their children, and that you'll handle telling them about your 'no kids' policy. do you think she just doesn't want to be in the position to tell them???

Re: Kids or no Kids....at the reception?

I'm a Youth Director so when I think kids, I think under 8. I'm not inviting too many kids but I will probably invite some youth who are older than 15. If you think having kids is going to bother you and take away from your excitement for the day. tell your FMIL and be honest. If she sees how it upsets you maybe she'll be willing to cooperate. You could invite the kids to the church and maybe find an older youth to babysit them for the reception? I'm sure someone would love to make extra money and your guests would be appreciative of a night off. This is what I'm going to offer.

So I have like 20 second cousins under 15... so we decided no kids! Plus it brings up the headcount/costs.

My cousins actually thanked me- so they don't feel obligated to bring them! They can have a night away from the kids!

Re: Kids or no Kids....at the reception?

NO!!! I feel a wedding is for adults only. I'm only having two kids, the flower girl and ring bearer. Most of the parents I'm inviting have said they don't want to bring their kids because they want to enjoy the night. Good luck
