Here's my dilemma that I would love your suggestions on & I thought a poll would be fun. I have cousins of all ages and my dad tends to have a very traditional attitude about most things. So he thinks all kids should be invited, how can I not invite my cute little 3yr old cousin?? But I totally disagree, I think an 'adult' wedding is nicer and really who wouldn't want to get a sitter and enjoy themselves? Or use the sitter we plan on providing. Apparently not my uncle, my dad thinks he wants his kids there, he is flying from out of state, ect. I also would love advice on, if I decide that little kids are not invited then where should the cut off be? 13, 15, 18? And then you have the 18yr old with the 15 & 13 yr old sisters ahhhhh
I voted NO these are the reasons why I am not having kids at my wedding.
1- Right now the first baby of the family ( Steve's nephew) will be born in Oct 07 by the time my wedding comes around the baby will still be to young to be in the wedding.
2- Steve and I work with kids all day long from 8:10-6pm. So enough with the kids already. Don't get me wrong I love all my students I'm inviting them all to church.
3- You have to have things to entertain them at the wedding. I have enough planning to keep 175 guest entertained.
4- When parents bring their kids they won't have any fun because they will be to busy watching them run all over.
5- To me it takes the true enjoyment out of the wedding for the parents. It can be a wonderful night out away from the kids. The parents will have good company, food, drinks, and music.
I voted no, but my exception are kids in the wedding party...here's why
Whereas parties such as bar and bat mitzvahs, communions, Sweet 16s are aimed at children, weddings tend to be very boring for children, and when children get bored, you never know. Last thing we need is an injury when a child falls because they are hanging upside down from their chair...also, you cannot selectively invite kids, because you run the risk of drama from certain people. I think personally a no kids except in the wedding party rule makes it easy for me to explain to others why their children are not invited! Also, it becomes an annoyance to older guests having a bunch of children who get restless and start running around and screaming...this is just me though!

We are not having any kids at the wedding. My nieces and nephews that are in the wedding are all being picked up after they get announced into the reception. My sisters, sil, and fsil all want to have fun with out worrying about chasing kids. My nephews that are 15, 14, and 13 are the worst. They don't listen and act so immature. My sisters def. don't want to deal with that. JMO

even being in the wedding party they can still not be allowed at the reception? lol. I want to do that! fh wanted to allow only like my 3 boy cousins and 2 girl cousins but those 3 boys are nuts! 9, 11, and 13. I would so rather them not be there.

adult weddings are much better. I planned on only letting 5 of my younger cousins come. I think I won't even allow that now. parents have so much more fun without the kids around. I'm lucky though literally 20 feet from Jericho terrace my cousins grandparents live they can easily walk on over.

Re: kids vs. no kids at the wedding, with poll!
this is on of those wedding topics that always causes a debate! lol
for us-- NO KIDS---only the FG was allowed at the wedding. it caused fights, arguments, and downright drama for TWO YEARS durin the planning of our wedding. off and on we had this battle with family members who wanted to bring their kids. we knew if we let ONE we had to let them all, and we only had about 100 ppl at our wedding. if we allowed them to bring their kids (just our siblings' kids) we would have wound up with about 22 kids. :-O yeah i don't think so.
ppl who try and make you feel bad about not having kids and even pull the whole 'well if my kids can't go, then i can't' (which you might wind up with later) -- those ppl suuuck and i made sure to tell them that if they wanted to pay for my wedding they could have all the choices they wanted as far as kids went.
just remember that you have to STICK to what you want, its hard sometimes. but if you say no kids...then absolutely NO kids (escept BP). its hard not to waver from it, but if you and FH agree on it, it can be achieved

we didnt have anyone younger than 23 at our wedding. my family with young children understood. weddings are for adults, not children.

I feel there should be no kids at the wedding depending on the type of wedding you are having. I am having a formal wedding and did not want any kids there but FH's sister is having a baby 3 weeks before the wedding and has 2 already. she is traveling up from SC so she will be the exception. Her kids are very well behaved and we cant wait to see the new addition!!!

We're allowing kids from out of town, bridal party, and the family to be invited.

we're def not having kids @ the wedding. i think it's nice for a day wedding. a friend did that on a sunday, and it was beachy with snowcone machines and a hot dog stand. there were a bunch of kids (the bride was a mother of 2), and they seemed to keep each other occupied. cranky brats at 10:30 at night, however, does not sound like a good time.

Re: kids vs. no kids at the wedding, with poll!
This is a tough poll for just yes or no because it can easily go either way.
We are inviting kids to our wedding, but we are having a very small wedding, immediate family and close friends. The kids who will be at the wedding are part of our daily lives and are just as important to us as their parents; we want them to share in the day with us. A few of my siblings who have children under a year old have decided to get a sitter anyway because it would be easier on them. We are totally fine with that also, just as long as they know their child is welcome.
I can undersatnd not having children at a wedding for one it is very expensive!
It's OK to have an adult reception, most people enjoy having a night out without the children and just having fun with adults.
For a cut off I would go with 18, or 16 if you have the room and funds to do so.
I would still invite any children who participate in the wedding ceremony to the reception, this is just my opinion, but I think it would be rude to send them home after they were part of the ceremony.

Re: kids vs. no kids at the wedding, with poll!
The way I see it is that a wedding is a celebration of family and kids are a definite part of family so we are inviting kids..
My FG and RB will be a bit about 2 1/2 at our wedding.. I expect that my brother will have his nanny back at the hotel to stay with them.
I am inviting cousins from CA that I never get to see.. they are invited with their kids (one cousin has a 2 1/2 yr old girl ) if they come I will see if my brother's nanny would consider babysitting Jade.
Other than that, I am going to leave it to my cousins discretion as to whether they want to bring their kids or want a kids free night. If kids come I will have activities for them, including coloring books, and other crafts. I will ask one of my students to take charge of younger ones.
But I completely understand those brides who want an adult only event. And by the way, kids will not be invited to after hour party.

Re: kids vs. no kids at the wedding, with poll!
We did not invite kids under 18 to the wedding with the exception of the 3 kids who are in the wedding. It did cause some drama with one aunt (there's always got to be one) who is not coming because her kids weren't invited. It was tough to deal with but we felt strongly that kids were not appropriate for an evening wedding reception. My best advice to you is to talk to your FH and decide together what your kids policy will be and then stick to it! Good luck!

I voted YES, kids are the life of the party and they are human too, they deserve to go to weddings and functions and experience things like that
