As some of you know I was married b4 for less than a year about 10 years ago. I started the annulment process in 2004 and have gone thru everything...their recommendation was for counseling which we've begun (FH & I). The priest in the diocese wants the counselor to get back to him w/ a report after 8-10 sessions (well if we kept going once a week, that would be the end of April)....(we're going to ask our counselor this week if we can double up 2x a week). Counselor is great and we are friendly w/ him.
I've been upfront w/ the diocese & said we're older & plan on starting a family ASAP & we have our heart set on that date b/c its my grandparents' anniversary (THEY are NOT happy the date is set). I also let them know I'm a catholic school teacher & do not want to wait another FULL year.
Our church in town has been wonderful & our monsignor is doing everything possible for this to happen. He said as soon as we hear he'd get us thru pre-cana & how July is not a very busy month & that date shouldn't be a problem.....
Dilemma is this.........at what point do I say, we can't wait anymore?! It will kill FH to not get married in the church (or more so his family).
I figure the latest I can order invites is first week in April.....
My back-up plan is an Episcopal church not far from me....
Please help!

I would keep touching base w/ them.. My friend was playing the waiting game for a while and she kept calling and then finally they helped her out. Just explain the situation again saying you have to know soon so you can get everything else done..

I know this has been going on a while for you and is a big concern. I remember your posts from before on this.
We're still waiting for DH's annulment to go through...this is almost 2 years later....and his ex-wife didn't contest it either. There seriously is no reason for these to take so long. Oh...and he's paid his $1,000 too!
I hope and pray this works out for you.

I am sure you must feel frustrated. You have come this far in the process, it would be a shame to give up now. I guess this is why they say you shouldn't plan anything until you get the results of the tribunal.
The annulment process really has nothing to do with the state of the Catholic church and is not something that can be changed just to make it easy for people. The sacrament of marriage is taken very seriously in the RC church. Sacraments don't change just because of current social conditions and I don't see how keeping with the churches 2000 year tradition is pushing people away. For those who don't agree or don't wish to follow it, they are free to go elsewhere.
Hang in there, if it is important to you and your FI, it will be worth it in the long run.
We all know where you stand but the problem with keeping a 2000 year tradition is just that, it is 2000 years old!!!!!......I think, personally, the church needs to change with the times to keep people interested and wanting to go.

There is no need to call me out specifically - am I not entitled to my opinion also? State your opinion and move on, no need to attack me personally.

They have all these stupid rules. During a preliminary meeting, they asked me if I have ever had any counseling within the last 10 yrs. I said I did b/c I have suffered from panic and anxiety attacks since I was 8, so I go off and on but not regularly. They told me I couldnt get married in the church unless I let the Diocese contact my counselor who than had to write a letter stating I was not only able to be married, but I had the mental capacity to enter into a marriage. I wasn't going to get married in the church after that b/c I thought it was ********. I knew it would make my grandmother happy so against my usual stubborness I agreed to it. I felt like asking if the priests that molest the boys receive counseling or if they get evaluated before they enter the priesthood.
Supposably the reason they are so 'tough' now is b/c of all the anullments and divorces. But my thought is that there are plenty people out there that need counseling, that dont get it. And just b/c people dont go to counseling and don't have 'problems' as they classify it, doesnt mean there marriage is going to last or be any better than mine.
First of all.. No offence to anyone who are trying to get an annulment BUT
The Catholic church does not recognize divorces. Whoever goes to Church and believe in the catholic religion should not have a problem with it. Annulment has become an 'accomodation' for most people. Why do people want to change the church to accomodate them?
Let's face it, when it comes down to a second marriage, why would you want to impose the church to accept the 2nd marriage if it's not what it believes.
It is my second marriage. I already got married before God. Having an annulment does not erase the 1st one if you believe in God. It's just a loophole to get married in Church again. Based on those principles nobody is fooling 'GOD', I opted for a non church wedding at a chapel. I would only would have gone through the process if FH wanted to get married in church.

You can take it however you want. You state your opinions, I state mine. If you think that was an attack, you are being too sensitive....how did I attack you exactly?

OK Ladies....
Isn't it RELIGION a taboo conversation for all social events? We all know why!!!!
Nobody is all going to agree on the subject. We all have different beliefs.
Let's try to agree that we can disagree and not insult each other!!!!
Sorry Cindy!!!!!... good luck on your process. Hopefully, it will be all cleared out soon for you. You are more brave than me on this one. I did not feel I wanted to deal with that part.

Thank you. To be honest I started to do it b/c it meant a lot to FH (& his family, Irish Catholic, only child) but in the process it started to mean a lot to me & got me going to church weekly & now I feel if I didn't get married in the church that it would really bother me.
I'll let you guys know what happens....Thanks again!!!!

Definitely try to talk to them and ask them to accomodate you. The rules are strict and are there for a reason, but the priests also have an obligation to help people who want to get married. Just keep asking and asking until someone will help you. There's no reason why they can't let you double up and do what you need to do to keep your date!

There is no rhyme and reason to what they are doing to you!!! They should have told about this a lot sooner so that you could get it done. I'd be looking into backups now but I'm not sure at what point I'd give up.

Re: Kind of Sensitive...need advice!!!
Ladies, just an update, after having my stomach in knots & feeling very frustrated, FH & I decided this weekend, we'll do all we have to do but as time gets close, we can't just keep waiting.
We decided to set a date & if we don't have an answer from the Catholic church by that date, we are going to look into Episcopal churches (we already got the ball rolling there).
At least we can stand tall & know we did all we could do & I guess it just wasn't meant to be.
Our main concern is raising our kids Catholic & having them christened in the Catholic church...
We did get the first letter saying we've received an affirmative decision but it has to go to the appellate court & they need the report from our counselor (these things almost make it more frustrating---that it will be granted, but we'll miss it by a few days)....
Thank you for your kind words & wishes everyone

Re: Kind of Sensitive...need advice!!!
Hi...
I saw your post regarding this and perhaps you've heard by now what the status is by now... just was wondering? Perhaps you could do Pre Cana outside of your particular parish? Parish pre cana usually takes much longer about 2 months because you only go once a week for about an hour or so. the diocese of rockville centre offers weekend precana retreats... you could bang out the requirement in a weekend....check on the diocesian website for dates/etc. I don't think they actually 'check' with each and every parish for each and every couple??? then afterwards, when the priest says you can go, you could say you did a weekend.
I wish you much luck... and if it means anything to you, i think you are doing the right thing. granted, i am not in your situation and have no idea how frustrating it probably is, but I truly believe that God brings two people together and how nice it would be for you to me married in the Church... particularly since it is what you and your FH now want! I really believe that marriage is a sacrament and I know it will be really special for the two of you to witness that committment to each other in front of your family and community in church.
