We went for a visit to the house on Friday and the kitchen is different than I remember. Need some help b/c my white cabinets, yellow wall idea with wainscoatig won't work....the cabinets are old and will need to be painted - was planning on doing white. All appliances are newer and white, the backsplash is white, counter top is a corian looking formica with warmer teal green, black, white and grey mixed together. Floor is really nice grey, pale greenish lineolium (sp?).
My concern is that the whites from tile, and appliances are all varying shades of white and now I will have three shades if I paint the cabinets white too. The green countertop isn't my first choice, but gotta do something for now with the kitchen until I have money to redo....HELP!!! Want to keep it light and airy, but not adverse to painting cabinets a fun color. Was thinking of doing cabinets pale, warm butter yellow but then I take a risk of looking like the 70s with green and yellow together...help!
Can you take pictures and post them on the site so we can get a better understanding as to what everything looks like?

i think that a pale yellow and a seafoam would look nice together. i dont like white cabinets with a white backsplash unless you add some deco tiles to the back to mix it up. i think the 70s colrs are more avocado green and goldish yellow lol. i design bathrooms and kitchens and redo those 70s kitchens all day lol

I would paint the cabinet doors white and the trim around them a shade of green. Nothing too dark, a nice warm color. My friend kitchen is painted like this. I would also paint the walls the same color green that you paint the cabinets.
If there was no green in that kitchen, I was going to say to paint it Red...It looks like the perfect kitchen to be painted red....For future notice...but since most of the kitchen is green now, I wouldnt go that route.

Re: Kithcen paint help - WE'RE IN AND REPAINTED!
Forgive the lack of curtains and the new table is coming next week, but I can't tell you what a difference this paint job made. That old green is gone - the pictures barely give it justice! Oh and girls - anyone can install wainscotting. So happy! The frame color is a mint green, walls a warm sage. I can now live with my kitchen until I can afford the kitchen of my dreams!
It looks great! What a difference the paint made, it looks so much more open.
I am interested in doing wainscoating myself. Was it hard?

Re: wainscotting - wasn't too hard. They have these compressed wood sets at home depot. They cover three feet in width each and you buy chair rail/moulding separtely that matches. Hardest part is you will need a jigsaw for cuts around windows and outlets. Took my dad and hubby about 3.5 hours to do 21 feet of wainscotting (mind you that included moving the frig too!). Kits come primed in white already but I suggst a coat of paint b/c marks easily just primed. Really freshens up an old room and adds some class!
