what we did with our cat, when she would scratch a couch or something we had a spray with water waiting and just sprayed her, you know most cats hate water... so after few times she stopped, she only scratches her scratching post....

Get the cats front claws taking out.. and dont believe the stories that it's going to hurt .. it doesnt. Cats recover in 3 days and they get used to them not being there, it's not a painful procedure.. It will save your furniture..

.. what bothers me more is when people who have cats leave them outside. I'm not a big fan of that.

Ohhh seeing those cats breaks my heart. I want Minnie...she is beautiful. I just don't know how Chloe would like not being the only child.

I agree...declaw...it saves your furniture and it can save the cat later in life.

Here is a pic of minnie...oooh i have to show DH....

I would take an old tupperware container and fill it with pennies. Everytime my cat started to scratch the couch, I would shake the can by his face( cats hate that). Scratching posts work.

If you go the declawing route(they are fine after a few days), go with laser declawing. It is less painful and less recovery time.

Gotta be honest. I have two cats. They are both declawed. I did not want to declaw them, but fh did, family said do it etc. So we did it.

we only did the front paws, doing all four is cruel because they can't scratch themselves.

If you adopt a kitten(which one?), and you decide to declaw I can recommend a great vet who does laser declawing.

Just a tip, never tell a shelter that you are declawing. They will not let you adopt!!

My stupid ex neighbor declawed his cat and let him be an outside/indoor cat. What an idiot!! Must admit, my cats are declawed.Shh don't tell.

Re: kittens

OoOoOoooo your kitty is so beautiful!!!

She kinda looks like mine...

However I have a VERY SAD STORY about her..

Before I left for my HM my kitty (Moo'y is her name) fell from we think the cable box.
My DH was sleeping and woke up to Moo'y crying - she was hurt pretty bad.. He called me and told me she was limping and crying so he took her to the vet right away. The vet took xrays of her paw and it wasnt broken - just a bad sprain.. this was 4 days before our wedding..
We brought her back home and figured she would rest it while we were away on our HM, and hoping she would be fine by the time we got home. My brother who was babysitting Moo'y said she never came out while he came by, so we figured she was just resting..

We'll when we got home she came out from hiding and I noticed she still was still limping. The next day I took a closer look at her paw and noticed some of her hair was missing around the outside of her paw and there was a little line on the top of her paw and some fur was missing there too. The bottom of her paw was cut but a scab had formed over it... I waited another day and noticed that the scab opened up so I told DH to take her right away, something was really wrong.

We got a call from the vet a day later telling us that her paw was extremely infected, so bad that they had to amputate her leg. I couldn't believe it!! The vet said that the tissue around her paw was practically falling off, and that she must have gotten something wrapped around her paw that cut off the circulation and she was biting at it (explaining the missing fur)..

We'll now she's back at home w/ a missing paw. She still my beautiful baby, but I just wanted to share.. Love your kitty no matter what!!!

Here is my baby...

Yeah. Know what you mean. But we are no kill shelter. Unless a cat is very sick and there is no hope of recovering, then we put to sleep.

But, when I think about the cats and dogs living in horrible conditions in kill shelters (the south has a lot), I stop feeling sad. THese cats are fed, have lots of toys to play with and give attention by the volunteers, and get vet care .

Spread the word around. We are so small and not well known.

Thanks

Yes!! he is . He is a character. THey are such a small place. No one there(but me) advertises. A lot of elderly people volunteer there. No one really wants to take charge and do anything to bring up adoptions.

She's doing much better now, she's actually seems a lot happier. She's more affectionate then ever.

She's jumping on & off the couch and bed pretty good.. occasionally she falls, but she's adapting pretty well. Cats are agile more so then dogs, so it's been an easy transition.. it's just a bit weird to see her w/ a missing paw.

I find it sad when she tries to clean her face or scratch her ear.. she has to use the other paw to clean and she wobbles.. when she has an itch she uses her back leg. Also, when she tries to use the scratching post she thinks her paw is still there.

I just happy the infection didnt spread where I would have to put her down..

Re: kittens

Am I the only one whose cat was never the same after having his claws removed (just front)? He is really off now (see avatar pic), and bites all the time (I think he relies on his teeth now to defend himself, but we are soo nice to him! he doesn't need to defend himself).

Some are rescues from kills shelters. Others were strays . Some were left by the door in a carrier.
