Knights of Columbus - what do you think? UPDATE Pg 2
Ok so my FI and I have been dating since HS and we recently just got engaged. We are both relatively young. We’re 22 now and are planning a wedding for Dec 14, 2007 in 2 years. We both have a large family and have many friends that are really special to us and we do NOT want to skimp on the guest list. My dad is giving us a sum of money and we do have two years to save however I think considering our rather young age, the fact that were new in our careers, and that living expenses are so outrageous on long island that having our wedding at the K of C in Oceanside or Seaford is our best option. Im going to a wedding at the one in Oceanside in April and I look forward to it. Many people have told me great things about that places and it holds 200 people the one in Seaford holds up to 300 people. We will prob. end up with the one at Seaford because I know we will have more than 200 people.
So my question is: 1) Have you ever been to any of these locations? 2) If so, how was the experience?
I am sure this type of venue is NOT everyones “cup of tea” and I would love to have our reception at some of the amazing places many of you are but I just don’t want to go into debt for our wedding and since my dad is giving us 25,000 I really want to work within that budget. So, what do you think?

My florist is amazing (Barbara from Simple Elegance) and she had her wedding at the one in Seaford. I know she will decorate it so beautifully and having it at one of these locations makes me have more flexibility with other vendors.
We have a HUGE dancing crowd, wonderful family and friends who we cant imagine having an affar without!
But do you think people look down on it?

I don't really think it is about the place. With decorations any place can look gorgeous. It's all about what you want and what would make you happy the day of. I don't think people will look down on it. I think it will be nice.

Cloddy is bride on LIW who got married there - look for her review. She had a beautiful wedding day at K of C in Oceanside.
Definately not my cup of tea but it's your choice. I'd get a good estimate on your head count and visit halls anyway, and see what there charging a head. Usually the more people the bigger the break. Good Luck in your search. Happy Planning.

Someone I used to work with got married and had her reception at the KOC in Oceanside. Everyone that went to the wedding said it was AWESOME. If you want to know anything in particular, feel free to ask and I will ask some of the people that went to the wedding for more details!

i'm not trying to be negative or anything.. but i am 22 and fh is 23 we are both new in our careers also..we have a large guest list also..
i just had my e-party not to long ago at a KofC and we had to do everything(and when i say everything i mean everything from decoraing to food.. to decorating.. to setting up tables)ourselves... it's just something to consider when thinking of doing it at a K of C...

Oh yea, thats true. I didnt think of that. This girl did everything herself. But I think she only had like 70 people at her wedding. That is something to consider!

I was going to mention that. A. lack of service B. if you want a drink you had to wait on long lines. C. When it ended it ended The KofC team didn't even wait for the guest to leave and they started packing up the chairs and fold up tables. I thought that was tacky they could have been nice about giving us the hint to leave. There are plenty of other places that may fit in your budget I would do some research you got two years

Re: Knights of Columbus - what do you think?
I think that you can have a very nice wedding at a Knights of Colombus because in the end I think that the crowd is what is important. Two of my brothers were married a couple of years back 6 months apart from each other. One of the weddings was at a regular catering hall and the other one was at the KofC in Seaford and honestly it was much more fun than the one at the fancier hall. The service was actually excellent and they didn't have to do anything themselves. The only downside was the CH was in the same room as the reception but you can have that at some fancier halls too. With a $25k budget you can probably do some of the extras that will really make your day stand out. Good Luck!

To be honest with you, really do your research.... there are places out there that can do an inexpensive wedding like the Brentwood country club and huntingtown house. My brother did the non cattering hall and regretted it because it cost him more in the end.... Definitely go through and price the budget before

I'm having my engagement party at a K of C next weekend and I know that it's going to be a lot of work even with my amazing mother. We're goign to have around 100 people just for the engagement party, so I'll let you know afterwards how it all went. If you're not completely satisfied at a K of C check out some halls, maybe do a Saturday afternoon wedding or even a Sunday night wedding. Just another option to look into. Good luck with the planning and the budget- I know that it can be difficult. My FH and I are both 23 and it's hard starting out on LI.

Re: Knights of Columbus - what do you think?
I do not think that anyone will look at you funny if you book your reception at the KOC! In the end it is your decision, and you have to be happy with it. The most important part of the day will be your marriage not the reception, so as long as you have your husband, and you guys have family and friends around that love you both, it does not matter what room you are in. But to make you feel better about your decision, why don't you look at some catering halls. Some of them will do it for a little cheaper if you chose a Friday night or Sunday afternoon, or have your wedding in Jan or Feb, or even on a holiday. But whatever you chose, I would definitely stay within your budget. No one wants you to go into debt over this.

Re: Knights of Columbus - what do you think?
Not knocking KofC, but I think before you just decide that, you should look around. There are a bunch of places that will accommodate a large crowd and keep within your budget. How much do you think this wedding will cost anyway? If your dad is giving you 25K-how much are you predicting you will need?
If you choose a day wedding, you can get a bunch of places for $60/pp. Pick a venue that does more than one wedding at a time and the price is pretty flexible.
Don't settle even before you've looked. Don't short change yourself.

Re: Knights of Columbus - what do you think?
In case you decide not to do KOC, some of the more affordable places I looked at/heard about were:
Manor East (my hall)
Stuart Thomas Manor - can accomodate a large crowd, definatly check it out
Ones I have heard about:
Ariana Waterfall Coral House Mediterranean Manor

Re: Knights of Columbus - what do you think?
I am sure that it will be awesome no matter where you have your wedding.....but your dad is giving you 25K - if you want to you can look into other venues. Some that come to mind
I have never been to it, but I have heard great things from my cousin and my mom's friend who have been to the one in Seaford they raved about it and said you wouldn't even realize it was a K of C

Re: Knights of Columbus - what do you think?
Honestly....its your wedding...you do want you want...but if your father is giving you 25k...you'd be surprised the catering hall you can get...and you and fh can pay for all the other stuff...which two years is well enough time to pay for.. Look at catering halls first...check out our reception prices list somewhre on here..you'd be very surprised what you can get.....do some research first
