Knights of Columbus - what do you think? UPDATE Pg 2

Original post by ZuzusPetals

Ok so my FI and I have been dating since HS and we recently just got engaged. We are both relatively young. We’re 22 now and are planning a wedding for Dec 14, 2007 in 2 years. We both have a large family and have many friends that are really special to us and we do NOT want to skimp on the guest list. My dad is giving us a sum of money and we do have two years to save however I think considering our rather young age, the fact that were new in our careers, and that living expenses are so outrageous on long island that having our wedding at the K of C in Oceanside or Seaford is our best option. Im going to a wedding at the one in Oceanside in April and I look forward to it. Many people have told me great things about that places and it holds 200 people the one in Seaford holds up to 300 people. We will prob. end up with the one at Seaford because I know we will have more than 200 people.

So my question is:
1) Have you ever been to any of these locations?
2) If so, how was the experience?

I am sure this type of venue is NOT everyones “cup of tea” and I would love to have our reception at some of the amazing places many of you are but I just don’t want to go into debt for our wedding and since my dad is giving us 25,000 I really want to work within that budget. So, what do you think?

Just another thought - if you are not tied to your date, consider waiting another month and do it in January. My date is Jan 21 (and coming up fast!) and we got WAY better deals compared to December dates. Not only was our per person price excellent for a Sat night, but the hall AND most vendors were VERY willing to deal and threw in a ton of extras.

Hope this helps - good luck!

To be honest with you, really do your research.... there are places out there that can do an inexpensive wedding like the Brentwood country club and huntingtown house. My brother did the non cattering hall and regretted it because it cost him more in the end.... Definitely go through and price the budget before

I agree, I found many places for less than 50 per person! Especially during off season!

And I think 25k is enough! we are doing our wedding for around $12,000! You just have to shop around!

I don't know anything about K of C but let's do some math.... if your budget is $25,000 then let's say that you can spend $15,000 on the reception venue. That leaves $10,000 for all you other vendors which is totally doable. If you have 200 people then it works out to about $75 per person which is about $60 without gratuity and tax. You can find plenty of venues for $60 a person - you may need to have a daytime wedding or on a Fri or Sun but don't pigeonhole yourself this early in the game. Look around first so that you don't regret your decision later. Not that K of C is bad b/c I don't know either way but keep your options open!

I agree, $25,000 is very doable...You just have to do your Homework!

If you want to have your wedding at KoC, then go for it. If you don't then I suggest you look around. 25K is not a small budget - and you are planning a 2007 wedding. The money will gain interest over the next two years, and you can save some additional money in that time period as well.

Im assuming the 12k was just for your hall right? with using the KOC, which again are BEAUTIFUL, she can have her wedding, HM and prob left over to save for a home or whatever with 25k. that would be the smart thing to do. I wish I didnt spend half of what I did at my wedding. my home improvements would have been done a long time ago!

UPDATE

I went to the K of C in Seaford tonight (also known as The Memorarie) and let me tell you I was pleasantly surprised. The main room can seat 325 people has a huge dance floor and is very very tastefully decorated. From the outside, it looks nice. There are white Christmas lights everywhere which is wonderful considering I am having a December wedding. There are nice chandeliers in the main room, an extensive menu to choose from, china is available, I met with the cooks who are so sweet. More importantly, they even had a party going on later and let me taste some of the food and it was delicious. Top shelf open bar (a main bar and then other stations available) The bathrooms are so clean and spacious – there is just one affair – the bridal suite is really nice with lots of room. The banquet manager was really friendly and accommodating. I saw pictures of actual weddings – with the room all set up and the whole nine yards. I am so impressed and obviously the price is very reasonable which works well for a young coupe who wants to have the best of both worlds to celebrate their marriage. Such as, a Saturday night wedding, cocktail hour, ALL of their friends and family present, good food, with a wonderful party atmosphere and without going into debt and putting unnecessary stress on a new relationship. I couldn’t be happier. All of the positive FM’s and reviews on here also made me feel very at ease. My fiancé and I are so excited about this find! Thanks everyone for your input!!
