I started at Xmas -- bonding between me and MIL. I love to knit on my commute too.

To answer your question -- the scarf was stockinette -- it was the first 'pattern' I learned. I'm working on a baby blanket now in seed.

Bad news about my first project though. Just got back from a trip to DC where I left it in the hotel bar by accident. They claim one of the maids found it and will send it to me asap (apparently she took it home or something ). DH keeps telling me that they will send it, but I'm afraid I lost my first project

oh no! I am so sorry to hear that.
I guess it just gives you an excuse to make another one!
where do commute to and from?

Re: knitting?

Good news -- the scarf came back! The hotel sent it to us and now according to DH I have to be nicer to and have more faith in humanity.

Anyway -- my commute is rather short -- just Astoria to midtown (about 10 rows on a scarf for DH). I'm assuming some of you LIRR girls are really getting stuff done quick!

Question for you all -- anyone know where to get a good pattern for a baby blanket?? All my friends are pregnant!!! I want something quick and simple (no designs to worry about).

I was planning on just casting on like 75 stitches and doing seed stitch for about 3 feet and then maybe edging it in satin. Any ideas??? Experiences???

What type of yarn did you use for this project? I started knitting in November and so far I have only bought the cheaper stuff (worsted/sport nylon yarn). That's a beautiful piece and I am glad you got it back.

I am in the midst of my third project, a cable knit scarf.

Re: knitting?

Hi everybody -- sorry I haven't checked in in a while.

DIY is the Do-It-Yourself network. In the city its like channel 138. I TiVo Knitty Gritty all the time b/c they demonstrate techniques and give advise on yarns and stuff.

Here's a list of all their knitting topics

Here's the Knitty Gritty page

In answer to the other question -- about the yarn for my scarf (that is if it was addressed to me). I just got a skein of Lion's Brand from Michael's -- I'll have to check the exact style name when I'm at home, but I'll get back to you.
