I was thinking of having a knock off bag party and i was curious if you girls knew anyone who did these? If so, can you please share their contact info so i can give them a call. I have no idea how these things work... so any help would be appreciated.
*Do they travel anywhere? (Meaning i live out east towards the end of suffolk).

Re: knockoff bag parties
i dont think u will have any takers...if u want a knockoff bag, u can go to canal street, in the city...they are not cheap either...and they fall apart.
I would never ever carry a knockoff, but you can either save up for a nice louis vuitton or ask your FI to get one fro christmas!!!
Or you can get a nice leather bag from Bloomingdales or Nordstrom
I know the knockoffs just dont hold up, they break easily, and IMO are not made well at all. Its actually illegal to sell knockoffs, over a year ago i was down on canal, and saw how they hide from police...its kinda scary and not worth it!!!

Well see i live in East Hampton which is 2 and 1/2 hours away from the city so for us out east... it's not that easy to go to the city. And i was wondering about the parties because my FSIL wants to have one and not everyone can pay $500 dollars for the real thing. And yes i'm aware that it's illegal... but so are a lot of things in this world that no one abides by.

Re: knockoff bag parties
People have them all the time. Whether they are legal or illegal no offense, but who cares. It's still fun to get together will your girlfriends and shot the sh*t. I buy the real thing, but you know what I would still go and buy stuff. Who cares, why is everyone so darn materialistic?!?!?
Anyway, one of my friends had a party about a year ago. I'll try and get in touch with her. If she can get me the name and number. I'll FM you with the info!

I think everyone is materialistic because people are in competition with eachother, maybe they dont realize it...but its quite possible. Living on LI its like a who's who and who's got what...we dont live in the midwest where women wear Mom jeans and puffy paint sweatshirts...this is NY, where the finest most glamorous stores exist!!! Men work hard to keep there women looking fashionable...if it was acceptable to look average then people would not work so hard!!!

Re: knockoff bag parties
I heard of someone having one and the cops came in and arrested a whole bunch of people. It was actually a sting operation. So if you plan on doing it just be careful who you get your recommendations from. I don't think it's really worth it.

YES THANK YOU!!! See here's the thing girls and i don't mean to offend anyone here... BUT not everyone has all the money in the world to buy a $500 dollar bag or whatever it is. Some of us need to watch what we spend AND i would never buy an item for $500, real thing or not.
As for whether or not they're good quality... well of course you have to know the product. If you know about the bag or what it looks like, then you won't be easily wripped off.
*These little parties are fun and that's half the reason of doing them!

hmmm...well maybe they do-but I work hard and I would rather save the get the real thing. I agree that the parties are fun, but there are other types of parties that are better. Lingerie party for instance. You are out east so maybe the Riverhead Coach outlet for one? I know they have good deals.

Re: knockoff bag parties
I think people are materialistic because they choose to be. You choose to compete with other people. I own my own business and work really hard at what I do. I could have whatever I wanted. If I wanted a 5 carat ring on my finger and BMW in my driveway, I could have it. But that's not what is important to me. Where some people feel the need to have those things. They need their men to provide them with lavish gifts all the time. Well I'm sorry that's sad. I'm content with my life. Maybe that's why people are materialistic. Maybe they aren't happy with who they really are.

I would have to agree with this poster. In Nassau County, I know the DA's office was really cracking down on these about a year ago. Someone I know had a friend who used to do the parties and she stopped b/c she was afraid she was going to get in trouble.
And as an aside, I don't get enough uses out of a single purse to warrant spending $500 on it, no matter how great the quality is.

Exactly! I don't need any man buying stuff for me--gone are the days where women stay home and clean all day while husbands make all the money. What an antiquated thing to say.

Re: knockoff bag parties
Well let me just start by saying that in the year 2005 (almost 2006) its RIDICOULOIUS to think even for a minute that you should sit & wait for a man to buy you something unless you are 10years old or for some mental or physical incapability you cannot work You should be able to fend for yourself. Sorry if I have offended anyone but when I read the “men work hard” I had to check my calendar to make sure I didn’t accidentally fall into a time machine back to the 1800’s.
Now as for the fake designer bags, well I have to say I just don’t understand why anyone would want to carry something around that is an imitation?? I think that it’s just as materialistic, it’s giving into the need to compete when you really can’t. IMO If you cannot afford the real thing why do you feel the need to portray that you do.
I agree that Blu –Ize there are other ways to have a great get together with you friends,
