KWR: Someone to watch Pets while on Honeymoon?

FH & I were talking last night and we realized we really didn't wanna leave our dachshund with just 'anyone' while we are away for two weeks. We don't wanna leave him at the Vet ( I worked there and all they do is feed them, walk them, put them back in kennel). We don't feel comfortable leaving him with relatives and asking them to do that for us.
Sooo who do you girls recommend????????
TIA and Brownie thanks you too!!

Hmmm I agree with you 110% about the kennel and the vet. I don't like that- my dogs are spoiled. LOL!

But I'm probably going to leave them at home and have my MOH stay at my place. In the past, when I had one dog, my parents would gladly watch him (in fact I think they prefer his visits to mine!) but now I have TWO giant dogs, I don't feel it's fair to ask them that. Especially because they have two big dogs, a pomeranian, 2 cats, and 2 teenagers in their house!

Anyway, would you be able to have a friend stay at your place and watch them?

My sister is taking dog training classes and she is going to take Jessie while we are on our honeymoon... A friend from High School offered to take her also... i think im going to have her take her just for the day of the wedding...

I dont want to put her in a kennel...

Sorry I can't help but I completely understand. My aunt is going to house sit and pet sit for us while we are away as her wedding gift to us. (Better than the cash in my opinion) Maybe you could find someone who is willing to do that for you as well.

My mother is taking our dog while we're away. But, if I had to leave her somewhere, I'd probably leave her at Petsmart in Huntington (mind you I live in Queens but would drive there to drop her). In fact, that's where she's going for the weekend of the wedding since no one will be avail to watch her. I like it because it's inside a store where shoppers can see what's going on. The walls are all glass and you can see in. So there's less room for mistreatment. Everyone is friendly there. Plus they have playgroup during the day which you can ask them to put the dog in every other day or something. It completely exhausts them and is great for getting them to interact with other dogs.

they have like pet hotels. My mom always puts her dog in one of them when they go away. Its nice cuz each dog gets their own room and they take them out to play and what not. In each room, they have a tv where they leave Animal Planet on ....definitely a better option than a kennel.

my dad is watching our doggy so we can save the $$ but if he wasnt then i would def look into one of those places.

Cozy Noses in Medford is really good and not really expensive and Petsmart in Huntington on 110 also has a really nice boarding facility.

we are so lucky that a trusted friend is going to stay at our house while we are on our HM...if it wernt for him we probably wouldnt be going on a HM cause no way FH would put our dog in the kennel(even though i agree with him)

My parents have been leaving their dogs at Bed and Biscuit in Medford for years and they love it. Its a 'doggie hotel' and I think the dogs get their own run and supposedly get TV time, etc. They always come back happy. If you are in the city, I have some places that I have used.

Re: KWR: Someone to watch Pets while on Honeymoon?

We were going to leave our baby @ her vet for just the night of our wedding (my FIL's are going to watch her while we are away) but since the vet will be closed the day after our wedding (july 4th) FILs wouldnt be able to get her till the 5th and there is NO WAY I'm leaving her in a cage for that long. She will NEVER get over it!!!!! Plus I know her, she holds a grudge, she'll be really pissed off at us. So what I believe we are going to do is keep her for our wedding night @ Pet Smart and then we are going to pick her up b/f we leave for our honeymoon
I'm gonna miss my bully baby!

Thank you everyone. I am currently looking into Cozy Noses and Bed & Biscuit since they are nearby our home. Thank you for all your help!

If I had any room, I'd watch your dog for you.

I can recommend the kennel that is afiliated with the company I work for as well as one other that my parents used for their dog.

FM me.
PS Sorry I haven't been around lately. Hope all is well.
