Labels for invites?

Labels for invites?

Hi ladies! One of my BM's is getting married in August. Her invites should be in anyday and she just asked me a question that i thought i would put past all of you. She was thinking of doing clear labels w/ the printed addresses. She wanted to know if this was tacky? I've never heard of this but that doesn't mean much. Anyone else do this?

Many girls will probably say its tacky, but frankly, I used labels and haven't heard complaints yet.

I just received an invitation but they used a white label - I didn't like it at all. However if you don't have the money to do a calligrapher then it is not such a big deal but I didn't like how it looked. There is a calligrapher on here that will do the calligraphy for 39 cents an envelope - that is a good price.

i was thinking of telling her to go and get that computer program that prints the calligraphy directly on the envelopes. i prefer the traditional way myself. luckily my moms friend has already offered to do it for me!

IMO, Labels on an invite are a big NO NO!!!!!

Try doing them on the computer.

If hiring a calligrapher is a problem...IMO if you have a nice handwriting, do it yourself and that it will look more presentable than labels.

i'm not a fan of labels - it's too impersonal. if $$ is an issue, hand write them or run them through a printer.

I'm not a fan of the labels either. I had mine hand done but I know that's very expensive. How about running the actually envelopes through a printer? Her invites are going to be everyone's first impression of the event and I don't know if labels are appropriate.

I would put the envelopes through the printer and have the address printed directly on to them.

I agree with most of the girls on here. Labels don't look formal enough for a wedding invitation. But, due to the high cost of calligraphers I would strongly consider printing them on the computer. Babeyblu16 just mailed hers out a few weeks ago (I'm one of her BM) and they looked great - fm her for tips!

IMO, labels are too informal for wedding invites. I am planning on using Inkspun, they are a vendor on here and very affordable- they do computer calligraphy.

I personally don't like the label look. I did mine by feeding them directly into envelope.

I guess I'm tacky then... Did clear labels with a calligraphy font...IMO I thought it looked nice, but it depends on how formal your wedding is too! Mine is a Fri afternoon.

Re: Labels for invites?

We are putting our invites through the computer and using the same font on our invites. But my sister used clear labels on the envelopes for the invites for my bridal shower, and I think it looks fine. I think clear is okay, but white might be pushing it. I can't affrord a calligrapher either, that's why I am doing it on my printer.

Re: Labels for invites?

i honestly don't think it matters. we just got a wedding invitation with a clear label and really nice font. i was like oooh look mom she used labels, and my mom was like she did? she didn't even notice (or care) she just turned it over to open it immediately. i'm using a calligrapher b/c my mom's friend offered to do it for us, but if i didn't have her i'd probably do labels too. who cares? if someone is going to judge me and/or my wedding based on the fact that i used labels on the invites then i just think that's silly! jmo

Re: Labels for invites?

This is what exactly DH and I did for our wedding invites and Thank You cards. We bought Avery clear address labels for both outer and inner envelopes and TY cards. We were able to spell check, change font size and font before printing and putting it on the envelopes. We received many positive comments of how organized we were and well planned our wedding was. We have not received any negative feedback with these clear labels. We refuse to hand write 250 outer and inner envelopes or spend extra money for calligraphy but to save money to print it on clear labels.

Personally, it's NOT tacky but very efficient, organized, and cost effective. Both set of parents were constantly adding to the guest list and we had to keep sending invites up until 20 days before our wedding. There was no time to get a calligrapher and it was financially not worth go get them calligraphied.
