Labor day...

How does everyone feel about going to a wedding on Labor day. Do you think it is a bad idea?

I think having a Monday wedding is better than a Friday one during any weekend of the year. If it's a Friday wedding, people have to take off of work or leave early. Most people miss the ceremony. If it's Monday everyone has off and send STD so people know early. Do you have a lot of long distance guests? They would be the only ones inconvenienced, but if you have it early in the day that shouldn't be an issue.

IMO, and we've been to many holiday weekend weddings, I don't like them at all. Being that I work at a company that gives us very few holidays (we don't get Presidents Day, etc.), the three-day weekends such as Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day, I want to do what I want to do like go away or just hang at the beach and do nothing. Also I've had to travel for 2 of them and it was a nightmare = expensive, busy at the airport, etc. Just my opinion though. But on the flipside, having been a bride myself, I hear its cheaper to have a wedding on a holiday weekend, and so I can understand people wanting to get married then (among other reasons).

I dont know about cheaper- Seems like everyone wants to charge more because it is a holiday weekend!

holiday weekend's are not bad when it is not a big touristy place -we had one in Newport,RI - it would probably be hard int he hamptons - it is hard in a place everyone wants to go to

but just give notice and people deal - i thought i could cut my guest list to my engagement party by having it on the saturday of memorial day weekend - but more people came because they had more time

I think the biggest concern would be where you are having it. If you plan on having it out east that can be pretty rough for people becuase of how the traffic is.

I am also considering Labor Day weekend. It has been a tradition in my family to get married that weekend. My grandparents, parents, aunts & uncles and sister have all done it so I would like to continue it. I just am going to leave myself a lot of time to get place to place knowing what weekend it is.

I am getting married the Sunday of Columbus weekend. Four out of the five halls we visited quoted us Saturday night prices because it's a holiday weekend.

I have a lot of OOT family. I know most of them are off on Monday, so at least this will give those who have to travel one day before and after the wedding.

My sister is getting married on Labor Day. Her ceremony at church is at 10:00 am and her reception starts at 12:00 and ends at 5:00.

She is getting married at Russo's on the Bay and she got an incredible deal because it was the holiday. She was able to have the wedding at a place she loved because of it.
Had it not been the holiday she would not have been able to afford it.

I am a big believer that those close to you will be there for you on your special day regardless of the fact it is a holiday.

I was married just this past October on Columbus Day weekend. I married on a Sunday the day before Columbus Day. Not as much of a major holiday but I still was able to have it at Chautauu Briand because of it.
Saturday's were way too expensive.

It is your special day and it comes once in your life. Go with your heart. You will never be able to please everyone and in the end it is both your special day.

My brother had this wedding on Labor Day. It was an early evening wedding... at around 5:30. Some of the out-of-towners couldn't stay for the entire reception but a good amount of people showed up overall. My sister followed his lead and had her's on Labor Day too, a few years later. I say, go for it!

I know this doesn't go for everyone - but to me a wedding is a very big deal and when I'm invited to a wedding, I'm honored and I make every effort to attend no matter what day of the week or what time of day it will be taking place.

I've been to wedding that took place 5 hours away, I've been to mid-week weddings and last year I went to a Saturday night wedding that didn't start until 10 PM!!

I think a Memorial Day wedding would be lovely! Congratulations.
