Im sooooooooo nervous about leaving my son for the first time on monday when I go back to work. I will miss him like crazy... but im mostly nervous that our relationship will change and since fh's mom is watching him 3 days a week I feel like we will become closer to her then me. I know I sound like a big baby but I was up all night crying

Don't think of it that way- think of it as giving him a chance to develop a relationship with his grandma. Grandmas are important!
And, the more positive female influences in his life, the better mna he will be when he grows up.
You are lucky that you have family nearby to watch him. You'll still be with him the majority of the time.

He isn't going to forget who his mother is. My nephew is watched by his grandmother, and believe me he still runs to his mother for everything.

thank you!! I needed to hear that. I just feel like this is an important age and he is learning so much. I feel selfish that im out working instead of at home taking care of him and teaching him new things.

That will never happen - children have a natural bond to there moms. Believe me I went through the same thing when I had to leave my son for the first time, he was 10 months old when I had to go back to work. My girlfriend was watching him for me and I was so afraid he would love her more than me and call her Mom!!! My son is 6 now and we could not be closer!!

I can't say that I know what you're feeling but I DO know that my cousin's kids were practically raised by their grandmother because she's been working all the time since they were very young and believe me, they know who their mom is and love NO ONE ELSE like they love her! You don't have to worry!

I cant really help you because I have no experience with this but I just wanted to tell you that I am sure he will be fine. Its only 3 days a week and thats not going to erase all the time you already had with him. You will still be spending most of your time with him. A little boy wont forget his momma!!

Re: Ladies can you cheer me up ???
Maxine . I was wondering how you were dealing with this ever since I read your post that you were going back to work PT.
Anthony has spent the entire first year of his life with you .. the formative years. He is not going to forget that, or the fact that you are his mommy and how close you are! I'm not a Mom (yet) but there is nothing that is going to break the bond between you and your child .. I'm sure his grandparents are wonderful with him, but they are never going take the place of Mommy!
SURE it is going to be hard for both of you at first (probably you more than him .. LOL) This is understandable! But you know that you are lucky that he has grandparents who love him that you can leave him with (without worrying). This also is good for you, too. It gives you a chance to get back out into the workforce and have a few days a week where you can be 'Maxine' again and not just 'Mommy'
I'm sure this decision wasn't easy for you, but as these things go it sounds like an ideal working situation for you. Give it a shot and take every day at a time.. lots of love!

My neice and nephew are with grandparents for 3 days a week and they are closer to their mommy than ever!
They simply light up when she gets home from work!!! I think its the old saying, absences makes the heart grow fonder!!!!

Im not a parent but I can feel for you...my mother watches my neice...its better that you leave you child with a family member than with a total stranger. Don't worry...you're still mommy...nothing can change that.

Re: Ladies can you cheer me up ???
My daughter was in family-style daycare from 8 weeks old. I was terrified she was going to think Lucy was her mom. Totally. It never happened. She always knew who mommy was.
You've had much longer than that with your son. And 3 days a week is nothing. He will have a fabulous time wrapping grandma around his finger. And you will get to talk to some grownups ... !! You'll realize that you need that interaction.....
Don't worry! I know the pain and the fear and the guilt is all wrapped up in a great big knot. But it WILL be ok. Really.

Also, I think it's good that he will be interacting with other people besides his mommy.
Gosh, how I wish my fi would have been able to interact with others starting at a young age

aawwhhh, do not even worry and think that he'll love his grandmother more, it must be hard to leave your child, I know when I have kids, I probably will think the same thing, but you child will be blessed to have time with his grandmother, some kids don't have that, it will enrich his life. He will always know you are his mother and will love you!!
