I posted about FMIL smack talking my family to me the other night, my dad called FH and told him he needs to tell his mom to mind his own business. Things have been quiet all week, meaning he said nothing to her, and I'm at the point now where I'm fighting with him because he hasn't said anything and my dad is ready to call and confront her on all of the things she said, part of me wants to let her do it, but neither me nor my dad want to hurt FH, so we're at a loss, why does she get to get away with everything and we always do the right thing, I've had enough, how could she talk about my own family to me, and she always disguises her digs as compliments, like a backhanded compliment, it makes me sick, FH and I just had a HUGE fight about this and all he says is: I wasn't there, what do you want me to do, over and over again, I'm like for all my family does for you, you need to stand up for us, for me, how dare she talk sh!t about my family to me!!!!!!!!! Everyday its something with her, he said he wants us to be the way we were before the wedding, it's not the wedding though, it's his mom, she even had the audacity to say, 'THIS IS MY SON, THIS IS MY DAY'....SORRY....WHOSE DAY IS IT AGAIN?!?!?!?!?!?!?! What should I do?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Re: Ladies, I really need some advice
Oy vey! This lady needs a sedative! Any way you can shoot her with some tranquilizers the week of? I'm so sorry you have to go through this Jenna. Nothing is worse than family drama, nothing. Just really more than anything, try to take it easy. Just breathe, remain calm. Really. Focus on yourself and your day, and anything but her. Simply, don't give her the time of day! Just you and FH and your family go about your business, and just olvidala as we say in Spanish, forget her! Do not let this attention craving egomaniac ruin your time!! This is it baby!!! 34 days for us!!! F.UCK THIS BIATCH!! Honestly, just realize she is pathetic, feel sorry for her for being so pathetic, and laugh about it!! Poor FH that this is his mother!! Thank goodness he found an amazing woman like you! Now is not the time for him to stand up to his mother, it's the time for you two to come together and shine. She can't darken this for you!! I mean really, who says that 'it's my son, it's my day'??!!! Ok lady, cookoo cookoo!! It's all good though, Jenna, you and FH and your family have come a long way through this, and you should enjoy it and have a blast!

I'm sorry that this is all going on. With a little more than a month left, it's not like you need the extra stress. From what I remember from your previous posts, FH just doesn't seem to want to stand up to his mother and stand up for you because he desperately wants her approval. It may be that you have to stand up for yourself. It's fine to play nice sometimes but when she's testing her limits like this, it's time to set boundaries for her and if FH won't do it, you'll have to. And if FH won't stand behind you, then it may be time for counseling for the two of you. You should be the most important woman in his life right now. Good luck.

Re: Ladies, I really need some advice
wow, allegra said everything i would have wanted to say but couldn't articulate.
i'm sorry that you're going through this! and i totally agree, there is simply nothing worse than this kind of drama. it's so unnecessary and hurtful and all she's doing is tainting her reputation to the world around her. i definitely don't think that at this point, confronting her would do anything (as GOOD as it would feel) but create even more drama that you just don't deserve. you need to focus on the two of you, your new life together and enjoy those around you that add beauty to your life instead!! you're a strong and intelligent person (i can tell just be reading) and getting ****** down to her level...well you're above it!! you deserve to just be happy and do your best to keep a positive frame of mind. if you focus on her, her crazy azzed drama (which is clearly what she wants)...well you give over your power and happiness to some (sorry to be blunt) biatchy psycho!! you enjoy this time in your life! because you only get to do it once and you deserve to spend it glowing and being light-hearted and happy!

Re: Ladies, I really need some advice
I am so sorry you're going through this. Just a piece of advice. I don't recall the first post, so I don't know the whole story, but I am extremely familiar with the type of person who makes digs and hides them as compliments. She is called a coward with no balls.
What happens to the ballsless coward is that when she is called out, she will claim ignorance. 'I didn't mean it THAT way, it's YOUR problem for taking it wrong!'
Trust me. That is what she will say.
I am sorry your FH isn't standing up for you. I understand he doesn't want to get involved, and it's his mom, but at the same time, you will now be his WIFE, and you come first. If it was a minor thing, I get his wanting to remain uninvolved, but she insulted your FAMILY???? That's a no-brainer. A stranger walking through would know that's inappropriate.
Don't rely on anyone else. Don't rely on your dad or your FH. YOU do it. Don't worry about the affect on your relationship with this woman. Do you have any affection for her now? Does she for you? So what will you ruin? Trust me, these things can very easily bleed over into your day, and you want it taken care of NOW. You also need her to know that those comments are inappropriate, and will not be tolerated.
So next time she says something, look her right in the eye and say 'What would possibly make you think that it's acceptable for you to say that?' And when she comes back at you with 'You took it the wrong way', just tell her that with her history of comments, you find it impossible to take it any other way.' And when she says it's YOUR problem that you take it the wrong way, tell her that it's HER problem, because she has offended you in the past, so if she cannot communicate without offending, the problem is hers, and she should choose her words more wisely.
If she still doesn't get it, tell her 'I don't understand why you would try to hurt my feelings- I'm your future daughter in law, and the mother of your grandkids. Is this really how you want our relationship to be? because it's your choice.'
When they realize that their actions could possibly affect their access to their grandkids, mouths shut pretty quick.
Again, I ask you to trust me. I have seen it.
NEVER tolerate anyone insulting your family. And no one should do it for you. YOU should tell this woman that she has no right to insult the most important people in your life. And don't worry about your future relationship. Frankly, if someone insulted my family, as wack as they are, I would rip their eyelids off. And I would have no concern over 'will she be mad at me'? YOU should be mad at HER, and if she doesn't get that, then who cares about her?
And as for it being HER day, please, if she says that again, do NOT roll your eyes in silence. Set her straight. HER time of the day is the song she dances with her son to. The rest of the day is YOURS. She will steamroll over you forever if you allow her to now. There are few greater insults than attacking someone's family. She should be ashamed.
Sorry to get all bent out of shape over this, but I am so familiar with this type of person, that it got me crazy. And one more note- regarding FH who says 'I wasn't there'- so what. YOU were there. YOU will be his wife, and YOU told him what happened. So for all intents and purposes, he WAS there, and he SHOULD tell his mom what's what. If he will take his mom's side over yours, you are going to have problems in the future.
I wish you the best of luck in this unpleasant situation. I really hope it works out!!!!

Re: Ladies, I really need some advice
It sounds like she's intentionally trying to get to you. You know your wedding day is all about you, just ignore her. She's obviously jealous of you for taking her son away. Sorry you have to go through this!

ITA. I won't say anything NOW because you have a month to go. During the planning process is not a great time to confront people. Just wait until the wedding comes and if she starts any more crap from then on, put your foot down. But first, I would make FH do it. It's so much better coming from him than you, ya know?

I totally understand what you're going through, and I'm so sorry. I know how frustrating and hurtful it is when your FH doesn't realize that he's not marrying his mother, and that you will always be the second most important woman in his life. If you need to vent even further, please FM me!

Re: Ladies, I really need some advice
I can't thank you all enough for the amazing responses...Suzanne, you are so right on every point, it's like you KNOW HER!!!
She really has no right to do what she did, the whole shower she acted like she was entitled to EVERYTHING and never had the decency to do the right thing, all she did was talk about FH's dad, who passed 3 years ago, that she didn't really like much...now all of a sudden it's all she could talk about, that people actually asked, oh Jenna, did he pass recently...um....NO....AND that was a ploy to steal the spotlight away from me, because she did it while I was opening gifts. People commented to me on her behavior and my cousins came to me to tell me what she said about my mom, she opened her mouth because she didn't know who was around her, BAD MOVE!!!!!!!!!!! I try to be diplomatic, and after the sh!tstorm that happened in February, with me finding out from others that she spoke 'unkindly' about me, she turned the whole thing around....sound familiar Suzanne???? It was like, oh this person is trying to sabotage our relationship, why would she do this to us, you know I love you and this and that, and things were okay for 8 weeks, now, all of a sudden, can't keep the lips zipped and off we go again with the same thing, I wonder who she's gonna try to blame it on this time, my cousins, my aunts, my MOTHER?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? She's got the biggest balls of anyone I've ever seen and there is no way I'm going to let her ruin my day, if it comes to a head before the wedding and she doesn't come, so be it, if she thinks she's gonna come first in his life forever, she's wrong, I want to fight my own battles, I think my dad just flipped because he was so insulted that she had something to say about him and my mom after all they've done for us over the last 11 years, and he feels like she's done nothing for the wedding, again, she even bowed out of coming to the rehearsal dinner so she wouldn't have to pay for it...what a weasel-y thing to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She only makes herself look bad and in the end, I don't plan on seeing her everyday, let him deal with her, she isn't my mother, but the next time she says one thing about my family, I don't plan on being too diplomatic!!!!!!!!!
