Ladies I REALLY need your help. Bridesmaid Question
Original post by the future mrs m
So, I've been thinking about it for a LONg time. How am I going to incorporate my sorority sisters in my wedding? We don't have enough guys to have all these girls as bridesmaids. I already have 4 bridesmaids and 1 junior bm.
My solution: At my e-party ask each girl (6) to be either a 'guest of honor' or 'attendant'
Which sounds better???
Their duties: -wear red dresses (our sorority color) and my wedding color (they can pick their own dresses out as long as they are red) -hand out roses (in memory of my dad) to guests as they enter the church -hand out programs -hand out flowers for petal toss to guests -seat guests -walk down the aisle before my bridal party
I figured this was the next best thing to being IN The bridal party and they don't need to be involoved in the cost of being a bridesmaid.
What do you all think??? What else can they be responsible for??

Re: Ladies I REALLY need your help. Bridesmaid Question
i am having my sister and closest girlfriend as my maid & matron of honor and my niece as my junior bridesmaid. my FH did not want a bridal party and only asked his friend to be his best man, but at the end i really wanted my brother up there too, so i asked him too.
i have a lot of really close girlfriends that i would have had in my bridal party, had i been having one, but i didn't. and it's a decision we both made together due to a lot of the 'stuff' bridal parties involve (besides the fact that FH doesn't want groomsmen). so i'm not having one. but i still want to honor them someway.
i wanted to do the walk down the aisle too. have them walk a line of flowers down the aisle to hang up on the alter and have them sit in the front row wearing a pinned red rose. i am asking one of them to do a reading.
i plan to ask them soon. i just need to figure out how to not make it seem like they 'didn't make the cut' sort of thing...

I think it is really sweet you want to acknoweldge them and can understand that you need to draw the line with the bridesmaid. I can respect that. I don't think it is a big deal to ask them to wear red. Talk to them explain your ideas and feel them, if they are will they will do it. If not, let it go. I can see how some may be offended with the jobs you've assigned, so tread lightly. I would suggest: - Definitely a corsage, you could do your soroity colors and even put a ribbon with the sign or name or letters,( I dont know the correct termonology) - I love the idea of having them walk down the ailse. You can have them escorted or have them walked in alone. But I think that is nice. -Instead of jobs, are you having a mass? If not, you may still be able to incorporate this somehow..have each of them read an Intention. For example, For our collegues from the University of ___, may they be succeeding in their endeavors and helping to make good decisions that make this a better world. For our families, _____, For our soldiers, the sick, etc. Pick six and have them read it. - After your first dance, they will say could the bridal party please join the couple on the dance floor, have them ask your sorority sisters as well.
You really only need to do a few things to touch them. You could write them a nice poem or letter and have it on their table for them as well.

Re: Ladies I REALLY need your help. Bridesmaid Question
I just finished reading all of the posts.
I just wanted to say that the reason I am not asking them to be bridesmaids is b/c a few girls have expressed in the past that being in bridal parties is so expensive.
Also, I don't want any of them to incur costs as bridesmaids. The red dress thing: we all have red dresses b/c that is our sorority color.
All four of my bridesmaids actually have been my friends since childhood.
You all have given me lots to think about. Now I'm nervous. I'll have to talk to FH again.
