Ladies..need some help...major..please read

I know this should be on the charity board, but I don't want her to think she's a 'charity case'.....I have a friend (single mother of 4 girls ages 14, 12, 10, 8) living with what was her on again-off again boyfriend....he's become very tempermental and has these horrible fits of rage...yelling, screaming, telling her to get out, telling her kids they are pieces of poo (but the bad word).....
she was out for awhile...living in a 1 huge bedroom of a church member for 18 months but that got too stressful since that family had 6 members too.
She DESPERATELY needs a place of her own...a 2 bedroom apt. or a small house....it has to be VERY reasonable...she can't afford much. Can anyone suggest anything? She'd prefer a place with a decent school district for her girls..now she's in PAtchogue and works in Islandia.

Can she check with some of the women's crisis centers on Long Island? I know I recently came across a website that helps women in these situations. I'll see if I can find it.
