Lasik Surgery - Has anyone done this?

Original post by peabody

My sister just got it done this past Friday and could not be happier.

After listening to her and seeing how happy she is, I made an appointment for a consultation.

If I am a good candidate, I am doing it.

IMO, this is wedding related, because I have been struggling with contacts so I don't have to wear my glasses on my wedding day, so I will be doing this before my wedding.

hi guys.... I just got back from my final measurements... I am having the procedure done on thursday!! I am very excited, but very nervous as well! Why did tara have to have the prk??? give her our love!! tell her to make sure she is eating before the takes the vico, or else its a killer (something w/ substance too, not soup).
1017bride, Did your mom recommend stahl?? Dr. hufnagel is performing my procedure, those of you that have gone to stahl, who did you use? Has anyone heard anything about him? TIA!!!

Hi Everyone,

It has been a rough couple of days. My eyesight is still really blurry. I can't stay on to long, because my eyes get pretty tired.

Make sure you are definitely a candidate for Lasik.

I might feel differently in a couple of days, but I would not recommend the PRK. It was painful and as of right now I am not happy with the results. Everyone keeps telling me to be patient. The healing process is longer for the PRK.

Dr. Hugnagel did Lasik on my sister and the PRK on me.

Tara,

You will be fine . My fiancee had the same surgery done a few years ago. Does the place you went to have free enhancements? They need to be done every 4 years I think, depending on your eyes. Both her and her brother do experience poorer vision at night but this is after a few years since the initial surgery. The place they went to doesn't do free enhancements so she is going to TLC and if you qualify you can get the free enhancements. Since she didn't have the initial surgery there she still has to pay , just not as much.

Best Wishes to you.

Thomas

PS. I just had a surgery on my eyelid to remove a sabcis (sp?) cist removed and it was really hard not to move my eyes when following motion. I had to move leading with my chin first. So I know you will get thru this and you will be able to see your FH soon , without difficulty.

I got Lasik surgery two months ago. Before the surgery I had 20-200 vision and thirty minutes after the surgery I had 20-20 vision. I now have 20-16 vision. I highly recommend getting the surgery. I got the surgery done because I never want to wear contacts (too much work) and I don't want to wear glasses at my wedding.

Good luck. I highly recommend getting Lasik.

Marie, sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. My mom doesn't really know Dr. Hufnagel. Sorry . Best of luck!

Re: Lasik Surgery - Has anyone done this?

Hi Everyone,

I am feeling better today. My eyesight has improved today. Yesterday, I didn't feel that way. I was upset and pissed off, because I haven't been able to work since last Wednesday and I felt like I haven't had an progress.

PRK is different than Lasik, the pain is more and the healing process is longer. I now understand why. With the Lasik, they create the flap and then corrrect you vision with the laser and put the flap back and it heals pretty quickly.

With the PRK, they totally remove your outer membrane, correct your vision with the laser and then the outer membrane needs to heal. That is why it is more painful and it takes longer to heal and get your vision back.

Why I couldn't have Lasik? My outer membrane was not smooth, so he didn't want the create the flap and take the chance of the outer membrane healing incorrectly. So, basically he removed my outer membrane so a new one could form.

exotica776, I sent you FM. I may see (hopefully, I will be seeing 20/20 by Saturday) on Saturday. I have an appointment with Dr. Hugnagel (honestly, he is isn't my favorite person right now) on Saturday.

Sorry you had this experience, but hopefully in the end - you will be seeing clearly again.
Thanks for the info on the other procedure - I had never heard of it - it does sound quite uncomfortable.

I know of a very good and reputable surgeon here in the city and he is the Director for the Eye & Ear Infirmary Hospital in NYC. His practice is concentrated on Lasik Surgery but he does also other surgeries as well. Very professional.
Anyone that wants the info, FM me.

ETA>> I didn't have this operation done but when I was going to the office, I saw people that had this done. He also did this surgery for one of the Football Players and a famous Broadway Actor...if only I can rememberthe football player's name. .....I will post it when I remember it....
