Are you changingyour name, or keeping your maiden name? Or hyphenating?
I am having a really hard time with this. The 2 last names are much too long to hyphenate, so that is out. (10 letters and 12 letters.....rediculously long and sound horrible together)
I want to keep my maiden name, but at the same time I think that sends a funny message....marraige is a partnership.
I don't know what to do and I have only a few weeks to make the decision. After 33 years of the same name, I feel that it is very much part of my identity.
What are your thoughts on this?

I hear ya, it is hard. I am taking his, never gave it a second thought, to me it seems like it HAS to be that way if I wanna get married, that is just my thinking. Unless I was mega famous or popular in the business world, I would think of hyphenating...and I am not, so I am taking his.

I think this is a personal choice.....
I am taking my FH's last name b/c the same as Tatum...I feel like it's a part of getting married but that's just in my case & in my own personal opinion.
With that said....a lot of peple keep there maiden name, it's not like it's an uncommon thing to do. have you talked to FH about it?

I'm taking my FH's name. I have no problem doing so.....actually very excited about it!!! But I have a few girl friends who have kept their maiden name. It's really a personal preference.

Taking his name.. Im traditional like that...
I LOOOOVE my last name and am proud to be in my family but hey, my mom did it, her mom did it, and so on.. I can do it too even though its not an italian name

This is something you have to think long and hard about. If it's really important to you to keep your name, you definitely should. As long as the reason for keeping it really matters to you - and that's very subjective. To some people it's really important to just like the name, to others it's an identity thing ... all very good reasons to those particular people.
I used to think I was going to keep my name, but all of those reasons don't really matter to me anymore. I don't have a problem changing my name, and have reasons for wanting to share a name. I would prefer to merge names, but that's not going to happen, and I would never force him to do that, so I'm taking his name. If I still felt strongly about keeping mine, I would.

There was actually a post about this yesterday. It is a personal choice and it is your choice. I personally am keeping my name and so many people are giving me a hard time about it. But I really don't give a flying you know what what people say or think. Keeping my name doesn't mean that I don't expect my marriage to last, it doesn't mean I am not completely committed and it def doesn't mean my family will not be a true family. So for professional and personal reasons I am keeping my name. And what I tell people who say that fh and I need to have the same last name is that he is more than welcome to share mine.

me and my fh had a discussion about this, it really bother him for me not to take his name , he was upset that i wasnt going to take it, and i wanted to keep my last name, which i always wanted to do, and we had a couple of fights about it, but in the end i going to take his last name

Taking FH's name... Mine is soo much easier to pronounce. He said it's my 'Joisy' accent, that's why I can't say his correct. Doh!

Def. taking his. As someone else mentioned I feel as though it is part of getting married and I'm traditional. But, I know many people that keep their maiden name. Plus- im going from 9 letters to 3!
