Last night we had our food tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
I have to say that it was great!!! They served us a plate of fruit.. then they served us h'ordeurves. They were a combination of: pigs in a blanket, shrimp wrapped in bacon, stuffed mushroom caps, baby lamb chops, mini potato knish puffs, and spinach puffs.. Then for the dinner they brought out 2 plates - 1 with grilled chicken, 1 with chateau briand. Oh my God... these dinners were both soooo good. They came with a side of garlic mashed potatoes which were very, very yummy. I have to rate the food as an A++++++++++++!!!!I really liked the way the room was set up downstairs... it was very pretty too. If you guys have any questions, please feel free to ask

Re: Tonight I had the Food Tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
Hey Susan!!!!Glad to hear things went well...so, I'm not sure, but did you book them (and cancel JA's)?
I can't wait for my tasting (at the Milleridge Cottage)...should be in around 2 weeks!

Re: Tonight I had the Food Tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
Hey Jenn...Thanks! I cancelled with JA's a while back..but never booked a new place. It's been a helluva month looking for a new place but it's better than worrying.
We did not book the Woodbury tonight but came very close to it. I just want to check one other place again and compare it... but it looks like the Woodbury is going to win. The food was awesome and so are the grounds.
Another question off this topic.. since you live in Brooklyn, how has it been with vendors that you booked from Long Island. Do they (like your photographer) charge you more money to travel from Long Island to Brooklyn and back to Long Island again?

Re: Tonight I had the Food Tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
Oh right...you also wanted to look at the Old Bermuda Inn didn't you? Did you ever? What did you think?I am doing everything out on LI. I'm not getting married in a church, getting married at the Milleridge...so no one will have to travel from LI to Bklyn, back to LI.
Have you run into that? Are any vendors telling you they'll charge more for traveling to Bklyn?

Re: Tonight I had the Food Tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
We did look at the Bermuda Inn and liked it too but they won't give us a food tasting because they do showcases every so often and the next one is in November (but I don't want to wait until November). So now, what we will do is call the guy tomorrow and see what he is willing to do for us. If he's not willing to do a food tasting for us or drop the price or something... then we will definitely be going with the Woodbury. We have not even started looking at Vendors yet but that is what I am afraid of.. I am afraid they are going to want to charge me more $$ for travelling back and forth. Do you think that will happen?

Re: Tonight I had the Food Tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
Hmmm...I'm not so sure. Who besides for say, the photographer/video and florist would have to travel? Unless you book all the vendors from or near Bklyn and then they'd have to travel out to LI...and I don't think I've ever heard of charging a fee to travel...so, now I'm thinking why would the vendors charge for having to come to Bklyn and then back to LI...now I'm confusing myself and probably you too...SORRY!!!I do know that some of the hair/makeup people will charge a travel fee...but you can certainly find someone in Bklyn for that...and if you need a recommendation for hair, I've got one for you.

Re: Tonight I had the Food Tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
Yeah.. I don't know myself, I am just as confused. I just figured because they will be spending extra time to travel that they will charge me more money (hopefully not). Probably limos will definitely cost me more.I have a hair person but who is your recommendation anyway?

Her name is Bianca. I had a girlfriend of mine send me a pic of her sister in laws hair on her wedding day, because I heard it looked gorgeous and it did!!!! What's funny is that I just found out another one of my friends has been using Bianca for years and her hair always looks great at parties! If you want, I'll look for her number and will send it to you soon...

Sure why not... FM it to me, thanks. I've been using Karrie's hairdresser Donna for many years but she's only in on Wed, Thurs, Fri so I don't know if she will want to come in on a Saturday during 4th of July weekend.. so I may have to check out other options. Thanks for the suggestion of Bianca.Have fun at your upcoming food tasting

Re: Tonight I had my food tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
I am so happy to hear it went well tonight. I never did a food tasting but heard great things. I have the downstairs room and so hearing that you thought it was pretty makes me feel so much better! Thanks so much for the update!

Re: Tonight I had my food tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
Wow, that was so great of them to give you a tasting before you booked with them. Of course we didn't ask about one before we booked, but we plan on having one at some point soon. I'm so glad to hear that the food was good. It was one of the reasons that I booked there - I had never heard anything negative about the food from anyone.Good luck making your final decision!

Re: Tonight I had my food tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
sanj100304 - the downstairs was a lot nicer than I expected it to be once it was all set up. When I saw it last, there was nothing set up and I just couldn't picture how it would look but you have nothing to worry about.. the room looked beautiful. Also, I liked the way the dj was set up in the room. He wasn't too close to people on either side of him. Oh.. and the cocktail hour outside was set up beautifully!!

Re: Tonight I had my food tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
jannshari - yes, that was very nice of them to give us a tasting before we booked. The food was really, really good! The grilled chicken that we had was a new dish that's not even on their menu yet but they said it's a big hit so far from everyone who has tried it. My FI is not a big chicken fan and he just couldn't stop raving about the chicken and how good it was. Even the chateau briand was so tender that you could cut it with just a butter knife. It was awesome..

I am glad your tasting went well!!!! Let me know when you make your decision. I really don't think it's fair that the other place you are looking at will not give you a tasting!

Re: Last night we had our food tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
I agree jillnbrad... I have a call in to this other place and he's supposed to be calling me back soon. When I hear from them, I will let you know if they will let us come in for a tasting or not. If not, then we are booking the Woodbury

Re: Last night we had our food tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
Yes, I dealt with Mike and I think he is very nice. We both liked him. He seems very easy going.Well, I just got off the phone with the other place about the food tasting... When I explained my situation, he put me on hold and came back to say.. 'You know that we NEVER do this BUT if you want to, you can come in on October 11th at 8:30.. I said, oh okay - let me speak to my fiance and I will call you back.
My FI tells me to call back and ask if the restaurant part of the place has the same chef as the catering hall (the downstairs part is the restuarant part of the catering hall). So I call and he tells me no, it's not the same chef. He said they use outside vendors and they have someone else who cooks so the sauces and stuff would be different.
I think that's a while to wait for another food tasting when I want to make up my mind... We are going to think about this some more but it looks like we will be definitely going with the Woodbury.. What do you guys think? I just think it's crazy that the food tasting would be another 2 weeks away? Do they not have another wedding until then?? Sorry, just had to vent a little...

Re: Last night we had our food tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
I went to a wedding at WCC in 2000 and I must tell you that with the exception of FLowerfield, it was the nicest wedding I have ever been to. The service was great, the food was great, and I think you guys all made a great choice...JMO~

Re: Last night we had our food tasting w/The Woodbury Country Club
I think if they're giving you the run-around and a hard time when you're simply asking for a tasting, and they are taking the chance that you won't book with them, it begs the question of how they're going to treat you after they know they'll have your money. It seems like they're giving you stress before you even know whether you want to have your wedding there...how close are you in terms of liking each place? Do you like one more than the other? Don't settle for either WCC or the other...make sure you make informed decisions and go with your heart!Welcome New Vendors
