Re: Latina Bride Thread 07

Missed all the pernil talk last night (can I just say YUM????)

Dominican/Salvadoran here
FH is Columbian

We definitely want to incorporate things into the wedding.

We're having a bilingual (some parts in English, some in Spanish; NOT translating each part into both) ceremony.
Programs will be bilingual.

Like Jess, we will be adding latin food items to the cocktail hour. Instead of a roast or whatever for the carving station, we're having a pernil.
We might have them also add platanos maduros and either paella or some moro/locrio.

We're having a bilingual MC and a latin DJ (they do everything, but are well known for latin parties). We'll play english music, but you better believe we'll have some salsa, merengue, bachata, ballanato (or is that with a 'v'?), cumbia, etc.

We're not sure about anything else like incorporating the Arras or a Lasso ceremony in the church because we're just not familiar with that, so we'll see.

I'm not Latina, but I'm marrying a Colombian. Is it ok if I crash? We're trying to incorporate two cultures together in our day, but FH has no clue.

Can you guys give us some ideas?
So far we have:

Ceremony mainly english, but readings will be in Spanish and Vietnamese.
Programs will be tri-lingual.

Reception:
We have a DJ and MC that is bilingual (Spanish/English).
Music??? I have no idea, I guess the usually??? LOL
As for the food, we were thinking a roasted pig but would that be too much?

Thanks for ANY advice.

Hi girls,

I'm Puerto Rican but my FH is Filipino. So we're trying to incorporate both cultures into our wedding. We're having a Spanish Station at our cocktail hour and a Roast Pork which actually works out because it's tradition for both cultures.

I found it on a site

Some brides and grooms opt not to take part of the lasso portion of their ceremony. This time honored tradition commences during the minister’s prayer after the bride and groom has said their vows. A rosary is wrapped around the couple to insure the protection of the union.

Hey ladies,
I'm Salvadoran, FH is Puertorican.
We've got the arras and el laso/Rosary going for the ceremony. Most of the ceremony is in Spanish, but it's being celebrated by our gringito priest
just a couple of things in english
Our DJ is Elegancia.....................anyone else get them?????
I STILL want a mariachi to do a little something at the RH, but me and dad seem to be alone on that one! Is anyone having a mariachi at the party?????

Hey Latinas. I'm Boricua and my FH is Moreno. Most of our guests will be Spanish so there will be a lot of Salsa, Merengue, cha-cha-cha, and tons of other stuff.

We will be having some empanadas and paella during our ocktail hour and they alrady have shrimp in garlic sauce so that is covered. Our ceremony will be mostly in English with some Spanish readings and our DJ/MC will be bilingual.

As far as songs go, I was going to use 'De Nina a Mujer' by Julio Iglesias, but I started to think that is was just a bit too slow. I wanted something that would start off slow and then get a bit faster so now I will be using 'Caminare' by Marc Anthony. LOVE IT!

Nice to see a new Latina thread around here. Now why do I smell Pernil???

Well my aunt just send me Mi Nina Bonita by: Hector Lavoe and Ismael Miranda it wasn't so slow. But I want a different song for my father and daughter dance..not your same old original ones. Is Caminare the song that Marc Anthony wrote for his daugther?
