Re: Lent
I usually give up fast food and soda. Which makes it sound like i use Lent as a diet. But that's not the case, I'm just obsessed with Wendy's and Pepsi
I don't know if I'll be giving up soda this year though, I don't think giving up the caffeine so close to the wedding would be good for anyone around me... plus it helps with my stress related migraines.
I have to think of something else to give up.

Re: Lent
I'd give up coffee....but I seriously think that would cause bodily harm. My system would go into serious shock.
Which is screwed up because I know it's the whole POINT of giving something up - to give up something that you can't live without. But I think I might keel over and injure myself. Plus....and this is TMI, but coffee keeps my system regular....
Soooooooo (in my long winded answer), I'm giving up cake, brownies, etc. Any baked goods. Which is RIDICULOUSLY tough considering that I walk by THREE bakeries EVERYDAY. Oh, and I just wolfed down an amazing cupcake an hour ago.

I'm giving up eating candy at work.....this may not sound like a big deal, but I work at a college and there is candy EVERYWHERE. Also, I'm giving up eating snacks after dinner!

Re: Lent
I attempted to give up coffee last Lent... and I lasted about 3 weeks and then I exploded and drank like 908980 boxes of Joe to make up for it.

Re: Lent
I usually give up chocolate which is REALLY hard... however, since I've been dieting- I haven't really been eating much chocolate (very sad and can't wait until May when I will gorge myself)... So, I might give up something else. Have to figure out while I sleep tonight...

I am giving up wedding planning.
Just kidding...FH is Lutheran so he refuses to give anything up (but going to watch me get ashes tomorrow). I am giving up mayonaisse. I know it seems stupid but I use it with everything. And not the low fat stuff either. I bet I'll loose at least 5lbs just by giving it up for 40 days.

Re: Lent
i have given up soda just because i feel so bloaded drinking it all the time.
so i am giving up biting my nails because i am doing that again! and i am giving up sleeping so I can finish all my papers and portfolios as well as wedding planning
in all seriousness though giving up: biting my nails being a procrastinator (i am going to have a schedule for things now)

Re: Lent
you don't have to give something up cpmpletely. I was learning in RCIA that even 'limiting' yourself from something for a certain amount of time or whatever can be a sacrifice...or giving up time to do something charitable....also you can make your lent sacrifice by abstaining from bad habits like having a sharp tongue, being rude, being judgemental. etc.
