Leonards-can you believe this!

Original post by beatle06

Today my friend at work told me that he and his fiance were about to book Leonard's last night. They wanted to hold the ceremony at the location as well so they asked if they had a room to accomodate them. (They are a group of approx 300 guests).. Anyway the guy told him no he couldn't do it. (But the bride knew that her friend had held the reception there a few years ago). Anyway long story short the guy wasn't even interested to 'turn the room' or to add a table for the ceremony (like in the front of all the tables). So the Brides' friend called up today and said she was getting married (around the same date) and they are like sure we can do ceremonies... the clincher is that they are muslim--the guy told them, aren't you supposed to have your ceremony at a mosque? I don't know if they are going to stick with them, but they are contacting their lawyer!

Re: Leonards-can you believe this!

I am gettin gmarried at Leonard's and to be the devil's advocate here - I would have to say that a wedding ceremony for 300 people seems a bit big for their small chapel - I am getting married at leaonard's outside in the garden with 150 and they told me that was the max - I am also an event planner for Bank of America and 'turning a room' of 300 people into a reception is not as easy as it sounds - I know that their main room can do a reception for 300 - but to do a ceremony and then turn it into a reception would take an hour or so - in my line of work I have turned a room of 300 people into a seated lunch in a half hour but that is with an entire hotel staff of about 30 people and at a hotle like the Ritz and Waldorf - where they are pros at this. - - sometimes as a bride we assume that what we are asking is very easy to do - but in reality it may not be worth the trouble for a hall to say yes they can do it and then have it turn out badly - then the bride would be angry because if they couldn't do it they should have told her! ----

as for the mosque thing - I don't think it was meant in a racist way - don't most muslin get married in a mosque - I have no idea - but maybe the person at leonard's wasn't trying to be a smart arse - but just isn't smart enough to think maybe some people would be offended by that -

i doubt a lawyer will get you anything but a large bill for their services - don't waste your time - move on find another location -

.... I usually stay away from posts like this... but this just look weird, you just signed up this month and your first post is to defend Leonard's??
There are many other boards here talks about fun wedding stuff, I am just surprised that you chose to write a lengthy post to defend Leonard's as your first posting.

Regardless if someone is trying to be racist or not, as a vendor and a professional (apparently not) you just DO NOT make comments like that.

I agree...I rarely ever reply to stuff like this but that defense seems kinda odd....

No matter what the circumstances, that comment should have never been passed and it doesnt seem as though Leonards has the best reputation so I would think they would try to be as accomodating as possible considering the competition.

I agree. This is a suspicious way to introduce yourself to the boards.

However, the statement made by the BM is inappropriate. You wouldn't ask a Christian couple why they choose to marry outside the church -- it is no one's business but theirs.

My father's family is Muslim and my uncle was actually married at Leonards, so this BM REALLY doesn't know what he is talking about.

Thanks for the input girls.. so here's the latest--the manager called my friend back and apologized etc for what his employee said. They told him thanks and that they were going to take their business elsewhere....

Nothing suspicious about me - just found this site and searched for any post on Leonards since I am getting married there and am a little nervous about the service which is normal - it is difficult being a bride and reading negative things about vendors that you have chosen.

I went to Leonard's tonight and thought it was absoulutley beautiful!!

I was really dissaspointed with the BM.

He was really nice in the begining while he was doing his 'speech', btu turned into a green eye monster when we started talking about $$$$.

Everything that they were offering sounded really good.

He then asked what date I was looking at and I told him that we were really flexible.

I handed him a list of dates ... he left the room.. which i though was odd.

He came back told us the prices.. and I told him that they were over our budget.

BM asked how much i wanted to spend.. i told him and you would have thought that another person came into the room and took his place.

Right then and there I saw his true colors....

Needless to say after that we got the quick run through of the first floor.

I was able to see them set-up a (Jewish) wedding for 500 people in the main room on the main floor.
He said this was do-able 'for a price.'

I asked him if I wanted to have my wedding in the larger room- could I and he said no.. it's a reception room. The smaller room is toooo small for a ceremony. (it would be cramped for 150 people trust me!!!

I just got a bad vibe from him. i was even contemplating speaking with a different BM, b/c I like the place soooo much.

But in all reality of it all.. I am trying to save for the wedding of our dreams and do not feel that I should give them my hard earn money b/c of him!!!

Oh did i forget to mention that I didn't know his name until i got home and check the business card that he gave me.!!!!!

Leonard's you missed out getting my money!!!
