But, I am going to Leonard's on wednesday. That figure does sound high for a deposit. I have been quoted $500 - $1,000 for a deposit at other places in Long Island.

Re: Leonards/deposit
Too much! HOw much are you paying for just the hall rental? Since they are not providing the food, are they paying the caterer or are YOU paying?
If they are paying, they may need to provide a catering deposit to the caterer?
I booked WM and only had to pay 500 deposit.
I would find out what the $3k is for...
HTH!

Re: Leonards/deposit
i am paying $39 per person for a July 4th of next year 300 people wedding, this without ANY food, this money is just going to Leonards, than i am paying extra to the caterer. i know my caterer and what the menu you will be like and so forth.
But im 'renting the hall' as Maurizio the banquet manager likes to state, so he asked for a deposit of $3,000 and by the way he said chair covers were $3 per chair... argh.
so basically to reiterate leonards will be getting $39 pp x 300. food is all seperate, but even despite that i think 3k for signing a contract is too much usually its 1,000 or something..

Re: Leonards/deposit
Personally I would say have another chat w/him. We had looked at Leonards first and they told us like 1,500-2k Dep. We ended up w/TOTP because of our date... lots of luck....

Re: Leonards/deposit
We only put down a $1k deposit. The next payment wasn't due until somepoint in September and the rest the Thursday before my Saturday wedding.
Maybe they are charging you more b/c they have issues with people who are (as they say) are 'renting the hall'? The rules could be different if you are bringing in your own people....silly, but maybe they are just cya-ing.

Re: Leonards/deposit
The 3,000 is the reason why I said no to Leonards. I am actually doing my wedding at the coral house. I only had to put down $400.

Re: Leonards/deposit
That's really odd because I'm getting married at Leonard's and my deposit was only $1k. In addition they threw in the chair covers for free.

I am not getting married there, but I had to put down $2500 at mine
It really depends on how much your total is and they take a % of that.

Re: Leonards/deposit
I am not getting married @ Leonard's and our deposit was $2500.00 (I thought it was high at first but then I figured lets suck it up it will be $2500.00 less in the end and the Big # won't seem so bad)

I am not getting married there, but when we looked around the highest quote for a deposit was $2000. I think it all depends on the place.

Re: Leonards/deposit
when i was looking at halls leonards was the highest first deposit too. however all the other halls spread out the payments and they turned out to be more of a deposit then leonards who just wanted one payment upfront and the rest aprox 6 weeks before the affair.

If you love the place and are confident, I think it's OK to put down that much. See if they'll take a Credit Card so you can get miles!

Re: Leonards/deposit
honestly, that sounds high...i saw our total bill for the hall and we only gave $1000 deposit for everything included...I'd at least ask (maybe send in a dad...they tend to get things worked out better than females or even the grooms) if you can do a little less.
eta-- many halls won't take credit cards these days because people cancel, lose the deposit so they dispute the amount with the credit card company and the hall loses the $...which may be why there's is so high...to ensure that if anyone cancels, they get $3k since I think at many places, you lose your deposit if you cancel. our first photography deposit was high (at the time) for us...they let us break it into 3 parts...it's worth asking at least.
