less-traveled reception venues?

Original post by weddingbunny

I'm having some trouble finding a reception venue... my fiance and I had actually decided on Fox Hollow, and I took my parents there yesterday, and they really just didn't like it... Now, if fh and I say 'this is what we want, end of story' they'd certainly let us have it there, but I really want a place that at least all the major players (ie, us and our parents) can be happy with. Problem is, I feel like I've looked at all of the more popular catering halls, and I'm just not impressed... I want something with a less commercial feel, and without all the glitz and crystal chandeliers a lot of these places have... That's why I liked Fox Hollow, because it felt a little more toned down than a lot of other places... but my dad is right that it's certainly a bit commercial... Anyway.
So, does anybody know of any more unique and less popular catering halls in/near Huntington? I'd really like to stay as close here as possible, since the ceremony will be here (South Huntington) So far I've looked at Fox Hollow, Carlyle on the Green, Oheka, Cold Spring Country Club, Thatched Cottage, and Watermill. We need a place that can hold about 200 people.

(oh, and as a ps - it matters if my parents don't like the place because they're paying for it, and while in the end it is my day and I should have what I want, I am personally not comfortable with asking anybody to pay $35,000 for something they really just don't like. So, I want to at least make sure I exhaust all my possibilities.)

thanks!

edit: thanks for all the suggestions! I'm really starting to get ideas.
Just as a note... I've already ruled out the Huntington Harbor Club because I had my Bat Mitzvah there, and it certainly is beautiful, but I want to leave it with memories of my Bat Mitzvah and find somewhere else for my wedding.
thank so much though!

Have you looked at The Bourne Mansion? That's where our wedding was, and everyone was floored when they walked in.

the $4,000.00 site fee is just something we can't justify

Um, OOOOOOK. It was just a suggestion. I'm sorry YOU cannot justify it. However, we COULD.

oh I didn't mean for that to sound the way it did... Sorry, actually I loved Bourne Mansion (from the pics & description in Wedding Sites & services), but FH was the one who brough up the 'site fee being unjustifed' we're paying for our weding ourselfs, and we're also house shopping so we have to make every dollar count...

I'm sorry if I offended you, I just read my reply and realized how short it sounded,

Your a lucky you have a spectacular wedding

I guess I just took it the wrong way. It must be all of these damn pregnancy hormones! No worries!

ETA: You will have an amazing wedding WHERE EVER you choose to have it. It's all about what YOU bring to it, not what a hall is going to give you

Congrats :babybo

y: when r u due? names?

to let the truth be told I love Smithtown landing b/c it resembels Bourne Mansion

If you are looking for an inexpensive cozy place, not a glitzy hall, check out The West Sayville Country Club. I think we were quoted $75 a head for a Friday night in September.
It felt like a house, which was really sweet. The web pix don't do it justice, it was renovated to be more... neutral?
Very much worth a visit. Plus you drive through a golf course to get there.

Thanks so much, FH wants a Sat. in June so it makes everything cost so much more... I appreciate the help, Do you know what their min is? we'll only be 95-120max?

Re: less-traveled reception venues?

I think they're minimum was low, the place isn't that big. They hold 200 max.
The price I got was for all summer, and I THINK Saturdays were $5 more.
The sales guy there was great, and the bridal suite was HUGE! Ony reason I didn't chose them was that the carpet and chair covers were all burgundy, which didn't work with my color scheme! Plus, with 180=, the coctaiil hour room wasa bit small. But it was VERY charming!

I was looking for the same thing as you. I didn't want any gold or crystal anything. I fell in LOVE with my hall, The Hamlet Willow Creek, it is brand new, and very classy. Its all wood and palm. I LOVE it. And we were able to afford a Saturday night in summer, but our min. was 150.
Sorry to blabber!
Good luck!
