Let me vent for a second...

oooohhh i agree. i felt bad my friend had period missing in one of her sentences and i think a word misused in a sentence in our final paper we had to hand in 2 weeks ago. well we got them back on wed. and my friend got a 89 i think on paper

and the professor did not once comment about the paper besides those remarks. and the paper was about a math game we had to decision...no comments about if the paper was well done or anything

I feel you. As an English teacher and former English major, it was one trait that I could not stand about my fellow schoolmates and currently can not stand about my colleagues. I really don't know what makes so many in this field think they're superior to the rest of the human race, but they sure do. All I can do is give you a .

Sometimes I feel like very educated people are intellect-snobs. I think so many of my colleagues are so concerned with appearing well-read and super-duper smart, that they don't really care about helping the students!! Grr. English Professors can be such snobs!

it's sad if all they care about is to show how intelligent they are rather than focusing on the students. I guess some people get into teaching for all the wrong reasons and its why alot of students suffer because of it.

i've mentioned this before & i'll say it every time, PEOPLE SUCK!!!!!!

We had portfolio grading for our developmental writing students today. If they pass this class it means they can finally move on to Freshman comp, so I try to just look for POTENTIAL in these papers... I think if students make a real effort that they should be passed! Some of the professors though are really looking for PERFECTION in these portfolios! It just makes me so angry, because I think if students are encouraged about their writing (even if its not the BEST) that they'll be more apt to put in more time in the next class. Unfortunately some professors care more about chit chatting about how learned they are and how many books they've read! Gives the rest of us a bad name.

i completely agree heather- if students are encouraged about any type of learning/work they have done etc they will be more apt to work harder, or put more effort into the next assignment or class. see you are a real teacher heather unlik those others!!!

Thank God all of my students passed, but its NOT b/c I'm the best teacher... its b/c I give them confidence and I don't make them feel stupid if their writing isnt perfect. Grr I just cant shake this feeling after dealing w/some of my colleagues this morning!!

Some ppl on my SOs side are like that. Let me tell ya- holidays are a JOY.

but that means you really are a special teacher though because you CARE unlike many others. and i def relate to feeling stupid if my writing wasnt perfect. i had a teacher my sophmore year of college who made everyone feel stupid. it was sad.

Unfortunately it is like this all over. Even where I work -- sometimes they lose sight of the bigger picture and focus on what isn't important!!!!!

Good for you for being better than that!
