Re: Let's talk Huntington Station
I'm really suprised at all the negatives that have been posted. I rented in Huntington Station for 4 years and loved it. I wasn't worried about the schools, though. When we were looking for houses we saw many beautiful neighborhoods in South Huntington; after reading this I'm glad we decided to buy in Northoport instead. It's a shame that the area has gotten so bad.

I live in huntington and I dont think its that bad. We used to live in huntington station. We bought a house in the village and love it. actually there is a house on our block for sale reasonable. everyone on our block is original owners but looks like the neighborhood is changing. we are 5 very long blocks from the railroad and its not bad. i think that if you go further 110 by the taco bell and hollywood video its shady over there.

huntington is a great town. but the SD is not. SD #3 -> Huntington is NOT desireable. SD #13 -> S. Huntington is much more desireable. it is not top ranked, but much more so than #3. many parents in SD #3 send their kids to private school and as a result the demographics of the district are somewhat skewed.
i am not exactly sure of the boundaries, but i do know that the majority of the 'station' is SD #3 zoned.

Re: Let's talk Huntington Station
It seems like there are alot of those towns that need redeveloping and 'weeding and seeding' on Long Island. I don't understand how if the cost of housing on L.I. is so outrageous, how these communities exist???

First of all, it's a matter of perspective .. so many towns get trashed on here .. and many of them, I know from personal experience .. don't deserve anywhere near the comments they get. This thread, I've been quiet on because I've only driven through .. and never had direct experience .. so I feel I had no right to comment. But again, I do think many towns on this board get dismal reviews unfairly.
Second, you say: 'how if the cost of housing on L.I. is so outrageous, how these communities exits?' .. Because not everyone has been looking to buy houses in the past few years that the market has really boomed. Many people have been settled in the homes for years, and may have even purchased at a time when it benefited the buyers and not the sellers (believe it or not, that does happen). So, people under those conditions .. will have a mortgage they can deal with .. Why would they want to sell?? Where are they going to go?? To get a mortgage that's in the same ballpark .. they'd need to move off the Island, most likely .. and for many people, that's just not convenient. And to sell a house on the Island, and get something else here .. it's almost impossible to come out without a loss ... or without taking a big step down from the kind of living you've grown used to.
We by no means live in an area in need of 'weeding and seeding' .. though on this board, who knows, I'm sure it'd be open for major debate .. however .. when I look at what we got into .. at a time when the market started to boom .. at a time we thought we were spending too much for what we were getting .. it turns out .. in just a couple of years of being in the house .. we were lucky we bought when we did .. and now .. 5 years later .. we still are feeling lucky we got in when we did. There is no way we can move without it being a major inconvenience to us in some way .. and probably the only way to match what we have now .. is to move off the Island .. and that simply is not an option for us.

Re: Let's talk Huntington Station
I'm not sure why you got so defensive, considering I didn't specifically mention any one community but yes, there are MANY communities that need re-vamping and re-developing here on the Island. Even crack shacks within those communities are soaring past what the average Long Islander can afford and it makes no sense was all I was saying...No need to get all defensive.

Re: Let's talk Huntington Station
I wasn't getting defensive .. just showing how irritated I am about how any time anyone asks about any neighborhood on this site .. especially a town considered 'affordable' .. that specific town tends to get a thrashing. It's really getting annoying. But your question of how 'these communities' can exist with the outrageous cost of housing on the Island was just plain and simply ridiculous.
