My officiant gave it to us. He is my mom's cousin. He's a Catholic Bishop, so he already had one and he asked us not to buy one because he wanted us to use his.

So, here's a picture of me trying REALLY HARD not to burn down the church...

QUESTION ABOUT UNITY CANDLE:

Is it unique to catholic tradition, or does everyone pretty much incorporate the unity candle into their ceremony?

I asked the Bishop about that. This is what he said,

'It is not a requirement of a CATHOLIC ceremony, but is often used during a Catholic ceremony. It originated a long time ago when people who were trying to earn some extra money would make candles for use during church services. And, then they started being used during wedding masses.'

Here's mine. It was our engagement gift from my grandmother, I thought that was such a great idea! Now our kids can use it in their ceremonies

That's the Marquis by Waterford set, right? I wanted that set SOOOOO bad! I even had it on my registry, but then I took it off because the Bishop wanted us to use his set

Yup, that's it. So pretty right? As soon as my grandmother heard we were going to do the unity candle (we're having an interfaith ceremony), she got it for us. It's even more special because I'm right smack in the middle of 28 first grandchildren so it's like 'been there, done that' with all this stuff for her so for her to get so excited and do this means a lot.
