let's start to talk about something 'nice'....PART 1

i was reading another message board i visit (it's about christmas) and they had a thread about how oprah is NOT having her 'favorites' show this year!!!!!

she did something different. she had an episode where she gave everyone in the audience $1000, and told them to use it to 'change the world/make the world a better place'.

this got me thinking. i have two question... i'll put them in two different threads, this could be cool.

question #1: IF YOU HAD $1000 TO CHANGE THE WORLD, WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH THE MONEY?

Saw that show and thought it was a great idea. I have been thinking about what I would do with the money and I know I would definitely want it to go to some kids. Not sure where or who. I know there are alot of poor children here in the US but went to Belize and Costa Rica and the children there are sooooo poor. I took a picture of one of them holding a large bug and then gave him $1 and he was in all his glory. Wish I would have brought a large amount of singles just to give to the kids. Soooo to answer your question probably try to find a family from one of those countries for the holidays to make there day a little brighter. I still may 'adopt a family for the holidays'. Think it is a great idea to make others happy! GREAT THREAD!!!!

That's a great question...I'll have to think about it.

My first thought would be to give it to my mother-in-law. She is sooo broke she can barely afford food (Yes, FH and I are helping her out...he gives her most of his money--I get none for the wedding )

I'm sure there's a better way to use it than that though.....

I'd donate it to either to Stem Cell Research with hopes to finding a cure for Parkinsen's Disease (my grandfather died of this) or the American Cancer Society (my grandmother and DHs grandmother, and my father and brothers all suffered from this).

I would probably do the same as the other poster said. I would probably donate it to a family in another country or even this country (there are some very poor families in this country) and help them out a little.

I would donate it to MADD in honor of my friend. The holidays are a really hard time for the family, friends and loved ones of victims of drunk driving. I would love for the money to go towards awareness of this problem and maybe even to help provide rides for people so they don't drink and drive. The holidays are hard b/c it's a reminder that your loved one (the victim) is not with you but also it's a time when A LOT of accidents occur b/c of holiday parties and people tend to drink a lot during this time...

I would like people to just be aware of this You have no idea how quickly you can change your life, take a life and/or change the lives of so many people FOREVER. The impact it has on the victim's family is so huge I can't even begin to describe it.

I would donate it to a local no-kill animal shelter. Animals can't speak for themselves, and I think they deserve a shot at a good life.

Buy Suz a starbucks chai maker machine so that she can make them at home and stop giving SB so much money.
