Lets Talk Money
Like most of you FH and I are paying for the whole thing. I set a budget of 24K We are getting married on a saturday day cause it was cheaper than night time and made sure my venue was under 10k. I knew anything over would send us over the budget. I am spending the most of our vendor budget towards video and photog but not going crazy. Like as much as I love some other photogs and videographers they would kill my budget so I went with one FH and I liked the work and fit in our budget and that we clicked with. Flowers we are doing on the cheap and not doing any crazy centerpieces just simple. DJ we are booking for under 2k. So we are under 10K for our vendors. That way when we add in tips we are still okay. We are going to order our invitations, std, on the cheap when they run a sale on vistaprint. I haven't looked for dresses yet but hoping to keep that under 2k. We are not needing a limo for much so we are having the hotel to the shuttle there and back for free. I figured once we add in honeymoon, gifts we might be a little over but not by much so I am hoping to stay under 30k. So far so good just have too keep being on top of the budget and buy accordingly.

Re: Lets Talk Money
my parents who are divorced are both splitting the cost. before we even got engaged both my parents let me know that they'd do that when I got married one day. though with seeing the real cost I bet they wish they never said that
it doesn't hurt my mom inherited a lot of money last year and I'm the only child.
we picked January since it's cheap that time of year at the hall. plus we could throw in tons of extras, get an awesome cake from a place I always wanted to get my cake from and it would level itself out money wise. also our special cake since it's Jan was less so we saved on that also.
I definitely splurged on my shoes! my mom actually surprised me with buying them today after she was looking at saks & saw these Manolos in purple(they haven't even come yet) I figured I can wear those for years even after the wedding.
also splurged on my shower cake which I stopped even talking about since my bp thinks I'm insane lol. I wanted a sculpted shoe on it lol for years & I mean since I was like 16 I always wanted an awesome girly shower cake. to me a wedding is a once in a lifetime thing and it's okay to go a little crazy.
I would say with all costs & according to budget of what everything costs online it's like 50g. of course that's because of all my little splurges lol. if I took those out it'd be like 45g (maybe even less). originally I thought 30g but yeah Ny is $$$. my cousin got married in Louisiana for 20g. and she had an extravagant wedding. I am so thankful for my parents.
FH always jokes I'm like Monica from friends I've had this dream wedding in my head for years lol.

Our budget started at $35k, then crept up to $43k, now we're at $50k. And thats with me still trying to figure out what we can cut back on.
I'm splurging on the venue and the photographer. Everything else I'm trying to negotiate. As for all the paper goods, I'm making them myself. I'm a huge DIY person. For instance I ordered sample invites from weddingpaperdivas.com and I'm basically just going to knock them off and print them on vista. I can't stand paying more than I have to for something someone is just going to toss in the trash.
It's crazy how expensive weddings are. I read some where that Long Island is the 3rd most expensive place in the US to have a wedding. When I watch Four Weddings and they're all like 'Jills extravigant budget is $20,000 for 250 guests', and girlfriend has an insane wedding - I'm like ***?! Why couldn't I live in Ohio!
My parents are actually paying for half the wedding, but it's still hard to save $24000 in under a year!
my family down south cannot believe my wedding won't be in a castle or something crazy for the amount of money we are paying lol. when I told them about Oheka and how much that'd cost they were like omg. my cousin had a huge extravagant wedding down there on the water, arriving with a horse carriage and her wedding was like 20g! the whole thing.

Re: Lets Talk Money
We started at 30k and thought that was reasonable then when we went to visit venues we brought it up to 35k and now that we are being totally realistic we brought it up to 45k. We are having approx. 160-170 people and there’s not one place we saw that the venue was not at least 30k alone. It makes me nervous to hear that amount especially since it all has to be cash because most of the vendors do not accept credit card unless it’s for the small deposit. We are using our savings and then saving as much as possible for the next year. Our parents are not helping at all because neither family can so it’s all up to us. I’ll just be happy the night of when there are no more deposits or headaches. LOL

FH and I are paying ourselves. I supposed some family will be chipping in for certain things but I don't think we will know until the time comes. My original budget was $25,000 and I'm thinking I can get it down. The photographer is the one thing I really don't want to spend crazy money on because I AM a photographer and I know it doesn't cost $3,500 worth of time to take pictures and edit them. I don't want an album or anything just candids and so far no luck! The honeymoon is big too but we're still early enough to do something reasonable. We could spend more but FH and I want a house and a baby :) lol

We haven't started booking anything yet but we want to keep it around $15,000-$20,000. I know it's definitely possible since I planned an amazing wedding for my brother and sister in law two years ago for about $10,000. We would rather spend more money than we were planning on an amazing honeymoon so hopefully it will go as planned.Welcome New Vendors
