Im curious to see who would be elected for President based on LIW votes as of right now.
I wanna keep it drama/debate-free so if you want you can just vote in the poll anonymously or vote in the poll and then comment with your choice. Itd be cool too if you did a short explanation on why your voting for that person so we can inform our fellow voters (without putting down the other candidate!).
I personally am voting for Obama.
Update 8/31: Since this post was on page 5, looks like we're done voting lol. Seems like Obama has won so far with 5 votes.

The proof is in his own actions. The guy flip flops more than a fish struggling for air. He'll say whatever it is people want to hear when they want to hear it. I guess its okay cause hes a 'MAVERICK' YEAH!

I voted for obama originally but I really don't know anymore. I like sarah palin from what I have heard - even though I originally said she has no experience - but either does obama. I just don't want higher taxes and some of the things mccain was saying would happen if obama was elected. But, can you really believe either of them?? I am going to have to do a lot of research i think.

well obama is still in the lead in this thread so i think he has the last laugh. i think noone responded because i asked for a drama free thread. im not trying to have this one pulled.
Using a NY based website as the actual barometer of who is going to win the Presidency is actually the funniest part of all. NY is CLEARLY a Democratic State. Wait until the rest of the country has a say. Then we'll see who's laughing.

Wow, can you say hypocrite? When Obama got elected for the state legisture he voted 130 times. And nearly every single time he couldn’t make a decision. He couldn’t figure out whether to vote “yes” or “no.” It was too tough.
He voted “present.”
This is the same man who ' lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening. '
At least McCain doesn't talk about people one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco.

Yes, it's a democratic state, but that doesn't mean that here, the results would be the same as what the STATE would do. She's not using it as an 'actual barometer' of who is going to win, it's just a fun poll.

actually it is a good indicator because as your opinions differ from other so does the rest of the country.
I personally am annoyed with all the negativity that is sure to come out. As already exemplified by the article you had previously posted. There are a lot of dis proven rhetoric being based along as fact. I also hate when news coverage is sooo blatant with the dislike for a candidate (either candidate) that the language they use barely hides the fact.
example. They use the same warning about Obama that they accused Kerry with (though I was not a big Kerry fa, I find it funny that they are reporting now like he is the same thing) Fox reporting
I also dislike people trying to use scare tactics on me to scare me a away from a candidate. Like I will be less safe with one person running the government than the other. It insults my intelligence. The powers that be are more complex than that. & the fix to the issue is not as simple as not to elect a certain person. I personally do not like one candidates plan, it will not benefit me, my rights, my business, my community etc.
Also on a side not: I never quite understood why people attached a personal element to politics. Saying they hated a person personally. I mean they are not even in office, they have not affected you yet you hate them. I saw this particularly with Hillary... never understood why even if you disagreed with her, why you could not appreciate an intelligent ambitious women, instead of the distaste some people had. You would have thought she killed someones cat (not Songstress cat.. I am voting for her cat for prez,,, hahah)

Obviously this isn't going to decide the actual presidency.... lol. But since this is a blue state, you can almost certainly assume that the vote would lean left. To me, the fact that McCain has almost half the votes here proves that Obama doesn't have a shot in hell. JMHO

I see your point but most girls on this website are from the NY area, which leans left so this is a terrible barometer.
I agree with you about the news coverage.... I majored in Broadcast Journalism and work in media and can assure you that the media is VERY LIBERAL and very BIASED. The average american who watches the news and bases their vote on it is misinformed and it annoys me.
As for why people take politics personally. Well, I can easily see why people hate certain candidates. I come from a background where the country my ancestors are from was Communist and they had their house and all of their money taken by the government. My grandparents had to flee the country or risk death for not agreeing with the Communist regime. So, the fact that a socialist is running for President of this country bothers me...ALOT. Most people have very strong opinions on politics, based on their personal backgrounds. This is why asking for a drama free politics thread is pretty unlikely.

Ugh. You ever think it may be the demographics of the site. & the fact that there are areas of Long island are republican leaning may also be a reasoning behind the voting habits on this site.

that's what i was trying to say -- the demographics of THIS SITE may not be the same as the demographics of the state. you never know who is on this site, whether it leans left or right or whatever
and no one said we were using this as a BAROMETER anyhow!

that is why I do my research. many do not even bother to watch the senate or the house when it is on, during the whole year not when there is an election.
Which is why I disdain when someone tells me what I know, what I believe or think.
It can be drama free if people choose to. Some will not & it is sad.

This liberal media thing is annoying. I;ve seen newscaster for BOTH side be biased. & both side campaign aggressively. What like the conservative side doesn't have media coverage too. Please. If anyone has to complain it is independents, it is hard for the to get the capital or coverage to be known.
Somethings that have come out of some supposed newscaster are horrid. There is one lady in particular that I find to be disgustingly acerbic in her comments on certain politicians. It is almost like she preaches hate against a party or a certain candidate.

Re: Lets Vote Early on the President. Winner: Obama??
oh & one more thing. the socialist claim. It is a label to scare & I think unjustly used.
What socialism stands against is civil liberties, loss of political & economic freedoms. & I am listening to every candidate & he isn't looking to abolish our government as some would like us to believe.
& just to clarify Socialism is:
1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods 2 a: a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state 3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done
Hence why I find it distasteful to label one as such if they are not.

Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Neil Cavuto, Joe Scarborough, Rush Limbaugh, Savage and Coulter
There are representation. & other media outlets. Print, radio, etc.
Like I said the people who should be complaining are independents. Try to find a news channel for them
