Letter of Resignation

Well I wrote it up last night and I am going to send it this morning. I found out that my boss isnt going to be in the office today. Do you think I should bring it down to our hr representative, Just send it to my boss, or send it to my boss, the head of my department and the HR representative?

Thanks,
Scott

Re: Letter of Resignation

all three

and as a suggestion, i would call your boss on his/her cell to let them know personally

This way your respectful and they don't find out second-hand

Re: Letter of Resignation

just the Boss and HR...

If you tell the head of the dept, without your boss knowing first, you might make your boss look bad

Re: Letter of Resignation

I agree w/ Don and Suven. Send it to HR and your boss. And try to contact your boss (before sending it to HR, if you can't talk to him/her right away then give to HR, that way you made a good effort to contact boss first).

Did you get a new job or you're just ready to go crazy with this one you are resigning?

Re: Letter of Resignation

I cannot call my boss on his cell....I dont have the number, and it is a long distance number. My boss works out of our virginia offiice. My group is basically run on its own...We really do not have any contact with him. Its a long story, but he isnt a really good manager anyway.

So I should send the letter to HR and my boss and then take a trip down to HR to see my representative too?

Re: Letter of Resignation

I would def. send the letter to your boss (email it) and bring it down yourself to HR.

Re: Letter of Resignation

That sounds good.....

Also....About the job. I went to the interview yesterday and the woman running the interview said if you get to the second step of taking a medical and you pass the medical then you have the job.

I passed the medical but I havent signed anything with the post office, or gotten any type of confirmation from them. Should I send the letter now or wait until I get some sort of confirmation from them. My friend that is a carrier already and his post master general say that if you passed the medical then you have the job. I dont know what I should do.

The thing is that I start the new job on monday october 18th....and I want to leave 1 weeks notice here...so I can have next friday off.

Re: Letter of Resignation

I just called the post office and left a message on the hr representatives answer machine. Hopefully she will get back to me today or tomorrow at the latest to confirm my employment with them. I don't want to send my letter of resignation until I get confirmation....Even though 3 different post master generals said that I probably had the job.
