Is anyone familiar with the different mansion reception/ceremony sites on LI? Any advice on which are better than others? Thanks!

Re: LI Mansion Wedding Sites
There are a handful: Bourne, Deversky, Vanderbilt (in Oakdale), Harrison House, Okeha. I can't think of any more. They each have different minimums and price ranges. Best totally depends on what you are looking for.

Dont forget Coindre Hall. If you are looking for the creme of the crop, look into oheka, osborne and the vanderbilt mansion in oakdale. The vanderbilt in centerport is a museum and your guests will be in a tent, not the mansion.

I really like the Vanderbilt in Oakdale, the combination of beautiful inside and out. They don't have many dates left this year and won't negotiate on price. Have you found places usually are willing to negotiate?

I am getting married at the Bourne and I think they can be somewhat flexible... Nothing crazy, but they don't seem to set their prices in stone.

Re: LI Mansion Wedding Sites
I've spoken with the vanderbilt mansion. They are catered by lovin oven which also caters to a few other place on LI. For the most part, they dont negotiate. If they do, its not much of a price difference. The vanderbilt I know will not negotiate, but they will throw extras in. But what stands out about the vanderbilt from the other mansions is there is no site fee for the reception only. Osborne has a $4000 site fee and Coindre Hall has a $1900 site fee. The vanderbilt only has a $1000 site fee if you decide to have your ceremony there. Oheka castle also has a site fee that is listed on their website.
The Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling is beautiful, I go to school there.

My reception is a Harrison House... I checked out Coindre Hall and found it to look really run down. Also -- dinner and dancing are in 2 separate rooms there.

I didn't get to see Coindre Hall but was interested - what looked run down about it? I'm really curious b/c it looked so beautiful in pictures. I didn't like the dinner/dancing thing in separate rooms either though - also the main dining room seemed small - did it look that way in person (only saw it from the site)....?

Re: LI Mansion Wedding Sites
The Vanderbilt and Bourne mansions are both amazing- BUT have max capacity of about 150 - and according to the photographers I have spoken to, a TIGHT 150 Also, w/ a mansion, dinner and dancing are often if separate rooms - But if you have a smaller wedding- Def check out both b/c they're gorgeous !!!

FYI -the Bourne Mansion can seat between 175-200 guests and still provide a good size dance floor. Dinner and dancing are in the same HUGE ballroom.

Re: LI Mansion Wedding Sites
Ok- here may be a weird question- but I'll ask it anyway. Do you know if the acoustics are bad in the ballrooms that have no carpets, special ceilings, etc (the way these mansions are). I'm wondering if the band/music will be too loud in these ballrooms and the noise will be intolerable. Just an odd thought- does anyone have any experience or insight into this issue? Thanks!!!

I was told that there can be issues with DJs but the acoustics are actually enhanced if you have a band.

We had a 7-piece band and there was no problem with the sound. Our band had a sound person who would adjust the sound to the space. Our band sounded amazing and our guests raved about them. If you hire a good band, they should have the right equipment to adjust to different environments.
