We just got policies for each of us. I always had one but just a small one and the beneficiary was my daughter. This new policy names both my DH 7& my daughter as benificiary with my DH receiving 80%. We got it through our accountants office.

yes, I have it. I got it about 3 years ago when my mom had her agent at my house- it just sounded like a good idea.

Be careful when you buy that you get what's right for you and not too much or too little, and the right kind of policy. Insurance is an industry with a heavy sales pitch.

If you are Catholic, have DH look into the Knights of Columbus insurance program. They have the highest rating you can get in the industry (you want a company that is financially stable and able to back the insurance you purchase). They also have a great rate of return on whole life policies which will help your whole life policy grow faster. We have their Discoverer policies which are a blend of whole life and term that slowly converts to whole life. It offers the benefits of a permanant whole life plan while keeping the cost lower.

this would be my train of thought as well...

also, really do your research, a lot of policies are rip offs IMO...

We're both insured through our offices only. Although Jim's isnt bound by his employment and mine is.

Jim pays into this
My company pays for mine (for 1x my salary)

We'll look into more after we have children.

For now all we look at is, do we have enough that the other can pay off all the bills outstanding, do a funeral and still have enough to live off normal bills for at least 3 months (as we're both sure we'll be beside ourselves and be unable to think straight)

We both have our own policies.

I work for an insurance company and I sell life insurance. I already have insurance on myself, and probably shortly before we get married, my FI will get some too.
The younger you are,the cheaper it is, and if you have a house,or children, especially, it is really important for you to get it.
There are different policies out there depending on how much you want and if you want something for a specific term, or more permanent.
If anyone wants more details, fm me!

Re: life insurance...

I have a private policy through Met Life for Life which means it is good until I am 98 yrs old. It will cover me for $$$K if anything were to happen to me. My job also has a policy on me as long as I am an employee with them for double of what my salary is. So both are great to have... FH only has the policy through his work. He doesn't believe in a lot of life insurance. He says when he has kids then he will consider it. All I got to say though, is that I am a firm believer in having a policy, because my mom would have been sunk at this point if my Dad didn't have it. He died young and it really helped my mom out raising 5 kids.
