Linens, chair bows, plate chargers and such: rent or buy vendors?
Anyone renting these? The only quote I have gotten is sky high. I could literally buy them and hire someone to put them up for me cheaper than renting. Wondering what other brides have been experiencing. TIA!

I think your best bet would be to purchase. You can always resell them after your wedding and make back some $$ too

Honestly I believe buy...we were orinigally thinking about using a raw space and renting everything and were dumbfounded at the cost! I agree with other post you can try and resell afterwards!

I am definitely leaning in this direction! Actually, I am going to start searching ebay to see if any past bride is selling her linens!

i was thinking about buying these things also because of price until then i realized that these things are really just another excuse for me to spend money on stuff we don't need...looks pretty but not worth the investment to buy or rent...

Creations de Belle in Mineola (also has a location in Farmingville) has done some of my family parties and they have done a great job.

I initially wanted to buy to save money, but the only people I trust to put everything out for me are close friends and family, and I don't feel right asking them to go to work the day of my wedding. Plus, I think some linens--tablecloths especially--will end upw ith stains I won't be able to get out, and then I won't be able to resell or reuse them.
So if I have money in my budget I think I might suck it up and rent. Then its one less thing I have to deal with.

I am renting my linens from bbj.com. Their lamour fabrics are about $21 per 96' round, and for the quality I think it's worth it. BBJ.com steams the linens for you and sends them ready to be laid on each table. If you buy the tablecloths yourself the quality probably won't be the best and you have to steam everything yourself. Plus bbj.com only charges $50 to ship to your event and send back. I would definitely not buy.

I beg to differ! Linens can dress up a whole room!

I want to have bows on the back of my chairs too or at least some of them, but again it is only going to happen if we have money left at the end

BBJ.com has some lovely things, but expensive! I may source some fabric here in the NYC fabric district and find a Task Rabbit person who can sew. Then I will use my DOC to find the vendor to place. We can then sell them after the fax.
Yes, I agree its ANOTHER expense for the sake of adding some glitz to the reception.. unecessary, yes, but my rational thinking when it comes to budgets went out the window a long time ago! LOL

I bought mine on Urquid Linen because I wanted pinwheel pintuck tablecloths. Some vendors on LI wanted $40 to rent them but I bought them for $28 each from that site. I absolutely love them and if I give them to my reception hall they will just use them and set them up for me.

Renting chair covers and table linens would be too much. Even we did purchase it and recovered money by reselling them. We did spandex chair covers and table linen for wedding and were very much satisfied by the look of the table and chair.

Why don't you compromise and just buy the chargers and other things to dress up the table... honestly when you look at the big picture, between the natural decor of the room, your flowers, your table numbers, signs, candles, etc. you really don't need the linens or the chair covers and the linens are usually the most expensive. Buy pretty chargers wholesale and use extra decor like candles, etc. to play up your theme and decorate the room.

I agree. I was pretty set on renting/buying overlays. I even was considering purchasing fabric and making my own, but I looked back at the pictures I took of my venue before someone's reception. There's so many things on the table that having some other kind of table linen really isn't worth it when you have a budget to stick to.

I agree! If you have the budget for linens - thats awesome. If not - it won't make or break your reception, so you'll be okay!
I just had a thought - if so many people want to buy linens - what about splitting the cost? There may be other girls who want to buy the same thing as you!
