we went to dinner this evening and she tells me that she definitely wants to host the RD, great! our wedding is on Sunday, and many out of town folks aren't coming in until Saturday. The out of town guests that will be here before Saturday will probably want to go out to NYC and sight see, etc.
So she wants the ‘RD’ to be a brunch on Sunday, the day of the wedding.
I said 'well ok, but I won't be able to come'. I'm getting my hair done in the morning (probably around 10am). Aren't I supposed to be at the rehearsal dinner/brunch thing?
I'm not sure how to react here. nothing is set in stone yet.

I guess because some of the people she wants to invite are not coming in until Saturday afternoon. And she figured folks will probably want to do their own thing on Saturday night (like dinner in NYC). A lot of these people coming in have never been to NY before.
I honestly don’t understand why she would want to do that the day of the wedding! Very weird!

No way! That's ridiculous. You need that day to pull yourself together. Why doesn't she host a dinner in the city then?

Re: Listen to this one....
um, what about the other guests that need to get ready for your wedding??? How would they attend and then get ready for a wedding? How will your bridal party attend, the groom, your parents, yada yada yada????? No this is not wierd, this goes beyond wierd

Re: Listen to this one....
well, I just told her (in a sweet way) that I think FH are supposed to actually be there, and we're not going to be there if it's the day of the wedding.
So now I think she's going to do a Saturday brunch.
she's a very sweet lady... she's definitely no monster in law (lol). it's just tough coordinating logistics when 80% of the guests are from out of town.

I'm glad that you love her and she is sweet! But tell her not to go crazy. The RD is mostly for the bridal party and the parents to meet and chat. The guests out of town can still site see!!! Anyway, you already have too mcuh to thinik about. Have a BEAUTIFUL DAY and RELAX tomorrow if you can.

LOL... I know. her other idea was a Monday morning breakfast, but again, some of the out towners are leaving 1st thing in the morning.
oh well, nothing is perfect.

she's old school Italian and claims that the 'RD' is supposed to be for the out of towners and that it's tradition. whatever
she's already helping us a lot with the wedding costs, so this is above and beyond. and IMO, unecessary.

Re: Listen to this one....
I agree your RD or brunch should be held before the wedding not the day of. You are definetly supposed to be there too maybe you should talk to FMIL before any plans are finalized.

Re: Listen to this one....
The POINT of a RD is to do it after the Rehearsal. If you arent having a rehearsal then the 'dinner' should be held the day before or two days before And while some etiquette says that OT guest should be invited its not always necessary. We had ours on a Thursday and had a party at my FIL house. My Mom had breakfast on Sunday (the day after the wedding) but this was not necessary either.

Re: Listen to this one....
The night before the wedding is traditionaly the RD night. If someone wants to go to NYC instead, that's their option. But to have the RD the day of the wedding is rediculous! As if you aren't stressed enough!

Are you jokinh?? Please tell me you are! That is ridiculous! You can't do that the day of your wedding. The RD is for the BP anyways not the OOT guests.
