we went to dinner this evening and she tells me that she definitely wants to host the RD, great! our wedding is on Sunday, and many out of town folks aren't coming in until Saturday. The out of town guests that will be here before Saturday will probably want to go out to NYC and sight see, etc.
So she wants the ‘RD’ to be a brunch on Sunday, the day of the wedding.
I said 'well ok, but I won't be able to come'. I'm getting my hair done in the morning (probably around 10am). Aren't I supposed to be at the rehearsal dinner/brunch thing?
I'm not sure how to react here. nothing is set in stone yet.

wow that doesnt seem right.. the rd is before the wedding day, you are suppossed to be there...people need to get ready for wedding.guests, YOU Your parents Your BP YOUR FH....all the people who are suppossed to be at RD... I would tell her as nicely as possible that it should be the day before

It's for the bride, groom, and bridal party.
Somewhere the real purpose of RD's have been lost.
It should be whatever is good for the two of you. My RD is actually a brunch because we are getting married on Monday morning and I didn't want a Sunday night dinner right before the wedding. Oh, and no OOTers not in the bridal party are invited.

I'm glad it worked out for you! Good thing she's sweet, she means well I'm sure and it's the thought that counts. If your OOT guests want to sight see they should come in a day earlier. They're here for YOUR wedding, if they're supposed to be at the RD then that's where they shoud be. If they want to see NYC so bad then they should've planned a vacation to come out here, not use your wedding as an excuse.

I guess because some of the people she wants to invite are not coming in until Saturday afternoon. And she figured folks will probably want to do their own thing on Saturday night (like dinner in NYC). A lot of these people coming in have never been to NY before.

That is the dumbest thing Ive ever heard. Have the RD on Sat night! The guests are coming for YOUR wedding, if they want to see NYC, they should come back another time. It is YOUR wedding, of course you have to be at the RD!!!!!!!!! What crack is she on???????
