Re: Long Island
well it depends. My only concern is that after the williamsburg bridge youre on the bqe and that can be hectic and LOTS of traffic, so that can delay you alot.
also what highways did mapquest tell you to take...sometimes it can give you the worst ways to go. One time i mapquested directions, it was telling me to get on the grand central, then to get on the lie and take the lie to the northern state, UHMMMM the grand central turns into the northern state at the beginning of LI, you dont get off or anything but once you get to LI it automatically just becomes the northern state. So why would i get off, go on another highway just to get back on the one i started on and on top of that the LIE always has ALOT more traffic than the grand central/northern state.
You can stay on the bqe and take that straight to the grand central

there might be faster ways, you just have to know which highways to avoid bc there can be alot of traffic, so can be quicker than that. Mapquest always tells you the most popular ways to go which many times are the most congested bc EVERYONE takes that. So its good to know alternate ways in case theres tons of traffic and you need to get off and take another highway or something. My only concern with you is the BQE, although you wouldnt have to stay that long on it. Once it turns into the bqe youre not that far from queens and you get on the grand central from queens to go to LI, and if theres not alot of traffic will only take a few mins. From my friends house in williamsburg bklyn(which as you know is very close to williamsburg bridge exit in manhattan) to the part of queens where you take the grand central is seriously 10 mins. Once youre on the grand central it should move alot quicker. The grand central should be fine at this time, and theres more lanes so makes it better. Then from the time you get on the grand central to go to bethpage, should take about 20 mins

the grand central turns into the northern state, all you do is stay on the grand central. The BQE and the LIE are the 2 worst highways to take, in queens the LIE theres always traffic. I dont know why mapquest likes telling people to take the LIE to the northern state.
Just stay on the grand central. You know where roosevelt field mall is? have you ever driven there...well at that point on the grand central it says right lane for meadow brook, but you can stay in the left 3 lanes and thats when the grand central turns into the northern state.
Honestly, i live by the LIE exit that you would have to take and let me tell you that theres always a HUGE line to get on the LIE from queens, It drives me nuts bc no matter what time it is or what day it is, theres cars that take up 2-3 lanes to try and merge onto the LIE and it barely moves.
Is it telling you that you have to stay on the northern state or get on the southern state? if so its not a problem bc theres an exit for the southern state

it says northern state, i guess ill just stay on the grand central, i know i can pick up the grand central by ditmars in astoria, so ill prob. just take the 59 st bridge to there....? ahhh i hate LI!!! lol
now im worried about all my guests going to the wedding??? they might take the LIE to get there ...lol..thats a whole other problem i have to worry about , them hitting traffic

it depends, you dont have to take the 59th street bridge, its up to you. I grew up in astoria and if i was downtown and had to take the williamsburg bridge i used to take that and then take the bqe, off of that you can get off in astoria although on the bqe theres an exit for grand central which is in the astoria part so same thing.
Stay on the BQE, when you get near astoria boulevard you will see on the bqe signs for the grand central exit. Just take the grand central exit an stay on the grand central. When you get close to exit 31 on the grand central you'll see that the right lane is for meadowbrook and glen cove exit, and the left 3 lanes is for northern state, so stay in the left lanes and that will bring you right to the northern state. Then just take that straight until your exit on the northern state. Its good this way bc honestly you will just take it straight from the williamsburg bridge. You might hit a little bit of traffic on the bqe but who knows maybe there wont be. On the grand central it should be fine, it usually is so hopefully.
The grand central to northern state wont be bad either, bc when you get on the grand central it will be by laguardia airport, then the next few exits are forest hills area, then youll have a few bayside and whitestone exits and within just a few mins you'll be in the beginning part of LI. The exits are close to eachother so shouldnt take long. The northern state usually is not that bad, it will turn into 2 lanes but ive never really had to deal with alot of traffic.
You can take the 59th street bridge into astoria but that might take longer. Bc you'll have to drive from downtown to midtown which as you know can be a pain. Then once you get into astoria you will be on 21st and close to 39th ave and you have to take it down to astoria boulevard which takes the place of 23rd avenue, and even then you still have a few more minutes to drive to 31st street. But do whichever is easiest for you
eta: to make it easy lol since i said alot of alternate things. Just get on the williamsburg which leads you to the bqe. Take the bqe until you see signs for the grand central, then once on the grand central take that straight for a little while, once you start nearing exit 31 just make sure youre in the left lanes again just stay straight and you will be on the northern state and thats it. Just to give you an idea of time, from astoria to the northern state is about 15 mins.

that sounds like its best for you to do bc you'll feel comfortable going to astoria to get on the grand central since youre familiar. Then from astoria when you get on the grand central it will be quick and easy. Just stay on the grand central until it turns into the northern state and then get off your exit. It wont be complicated at all, even if youre bad with directions you'll be able to get it bc all youre going to do on the highway is go straight lol. Should take you about 20-30 mins once you get on the GCP

Re: Long Island
I know everyone has given you directions, and they're right, there are A MILLION WAYS TO GO!!! But bottom line, it is NOT that long a ride!!
I made it from Staten Island to Bethpage in less than an hour one time (last trip). Depends on time of day and avoiding the LIE!!!!!

I grew up in Old Bethpage
You can take any bridge, or tunnel out of manhattan.
Take either the LIE or the Grand Central (which turns into the Northern State when you hit the Queens/Nassau border)
Take it to the 135 South (seaford Oyster Bay Expressway) from either LIE or Northern State and that will take you right into Bethpage.
