I think the websites are probably based on school district, or maybe even by county?
How about this site? http://www.longislandschools.com/

Becareful with the websites. They don't always give you all of the information on the sites. A lot of them are based on percentage but fail to tell you how big the district is and things of that sort.
If you are looking at different areas I would suggest asking people you know from that area or surrounding areas

i dont think there is a website that will tell you for all schools each district on LI is its own. their salary is different from one to the next and that goes for benefits and etc...

Here's the State Ed Site http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/career/index.html
I don't think their salary and benefits are posted anywhere either. Google it because you might find an article some newspaper did on the subject.
OLAS is an online system where you can respond to ads -- you must possess certification to apply.

Re: Long Island Education System
there is no site that will give u salaries for long island teachers by district.. .the city hs their teacher salaries online, and some individual districts might post theirs but for the most part u'r not gonna find that and if u do it'll be on each individual distrcit's site.. not in one centrallized location..

Re: Long Island Education System
In order to become a teacher on L.I. you need to have credits to be certified (not necessarily a BA) However, if you get a degree in Science, Special Ed or Math, you will have a better chance of getting hired. Each district is different. Unlike NYC all teachers in all boroughs get the same salary depending on the years youve been in the system and credits you have.
In order to teach on Long Island, since it is so competetive, if you do not get a degree in one of the subjects ive mentioned above, you will need to 1) know someone 2) start off as a full time sub and then if you make a good impression within a couple years you may be able to get a leave replacement which may turn into a full time position.
Good luck, let me know if you need any more help.

NYC salaries are now competitive and we won 55/25 (can retire at age 55 with 25 years experience) but the amount of BS you have to put up with is incredible. I love the kids and the challenges of the job but I hate hate hate teaching in NYC.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean! I'm graduating in december and i'll be certified to teach in NYC around february or march...my mother's been a teacher for 30+ years and she is tired of it, things are getting worse...teachers are being mistreated by everyone (students AND administration)...i'm trying to figure out whether I want to apply for jobs in the city or in long island....

Defintely go for LI..out of college you'll make (in most LI school districts) anywhere from 8-15 thousand more than if you start at certain city schools..amazing, right?

an elementary postition is very hard to get on LI (not sure if you are ele ed or sec ed). Hopefully you will be a lucky one and get a job on LI. Working in NYC hasnt been that bad for me. My school is decent and though there is BS - wait till you work on the island.. there is a whole different kind of BS and on top of thats parents in the better districts are more involved and feel more entitled.
I too want to get a job on LI to be closer to home and make some more money.. but FH works on LI and i see what he goes through and it def helps me feel better about working in NYC

I know someone who got a job in the city, and he only lasted a year, it was horrendous conditions and not only did the kids not care, the teachers were worse, and were pretty much on drugs, drinking to escape how horrible it was

it depends on where in the city you work the city is huge (5 boroughs) . you can deal with that kinda stuff if you work on a crappy district on LI... Roosevelt, Wyndanch..
