My Fh and I are looking for something different to have at the wedding without spending an arm and a leg that our guests will think to themselves, 'wow, that is different' We want to have an elegant affair, we asked the Caterers- Chateau Briand and they only recomended that we contact a wedding party planner, we are paying for the wedding by ourselves, I am very crafty. Any ideas would help! Thanks!

What exactly are you looking to do something with? The tables, the favors, etc.? There are many ways to personalize a wedding. I love to come up with creative ideas. If you want email me at [email protected] and I'll try to help.

My FI and I are doing something different, but it's not all that much cheaper than your standard wedding. We rented a mansion in the Hamptons for a week in September. The house has 9 bedrooms so my whole family and his whole family will be staying there for the week, so they can hang out and get to know each other. At the end of the week we'll have the ceremony in the garden by the pool and gazebo and the reception at the house. It's a lot of work, like we had to hire the caterers, find the priest, hire valet parking, etc. But I think it's going to be a lot of fun. It's nice because we can customize it and make it last as long as we want - the reception is going to be 8 hours long!! Hopefully all our hard work will be worth it! I don't know if this is the kind of idea you were looking for but I hope I could help.

My sister got married last summer and did something similar (but it was shorter then a week). We had the greatest time. Everyone still talks about it.

My FH and I wanted to do something different as well. We`re having an Italian harvest feast at the Queens County Farm Museum. The only downfall is-it requires a lot of additional things like renting tables/chairs, etc.
I have a lot of info and packets from when we were scoping out locations if you`d like more info!!

My mom went to a wedding last Fall - the people rented out an empty barn on this person's property - it was a farm. They just had long farm tables and had basically a barn dance. She said it was amazing. Totally different. They had a banjo kind of trio for some of it, and the rest was just mixed cds - but she said the food/catering was top of the line - very high end with taper candles on the tables - very elegant. Good luck!

We have been looking into doing something very similiar with renting a house. How did you find this mansion? Could you share some of the info that you have? We are just about to give up on this idea because we have had no luck finding anything. If you want, email me at [email protected]. I'd appreciate ANY info you could share. Thanks.

I went on a boat wedding once
Honestly it was probably the best wedding I have ever been to. I really wanted a Fall wedding and I have small nieces and nephews so I couldn't have a boat wedding But I still say it is the most fun I have ever had. The boat went to the Statue of Liberty and back to Port Washington. Sunset was amazing. Their photos were stunning. The dinner was a buffet style, food was really good. Everyone danced, went to the decks etc.. Very different, very beautiful.

We are having a Dixieland Jazz band for our cocktail hour. Maybe you could do something with the music?

We did a acapella group at our cocktail hour and everyone seemed to really get into that. They were great -- five men singing old 50's and 60's tunes. They even sang for us when we got to the cocktail hour -- we did technically our 'first dance' there with them singing. They also sang for my parents and my father even got into the act singing 'Duke of Earl'.
We did table names instead of numbers (we named each table after a city that meant something to my husband and I and a little blurb about why the city was so special to us).
We had these pear candles as our favors and I tried to tie that into the whole wedding theme, we used pears on our cake, and in our centerpieces. We also tied in some of my heritage and traditions -- like using a German toasting cup to refelect my German heritage, etc.

I tried emailing you but your address wasn't working. Here's my message:
The way my fiance and I actually found our mansion was through a work acquaintence he had - he mentioned what we were looking for and his coworker gave him the name of a house he had rented - that's the one we ended up getting. But what I was doing before we found the house was going to www.cyberrentals.com and click on where ever you want to look, in my case it was the hamptons. There are other house rental websites but I just can't think of them offhand - go to yahoo and put in vacation home rental, I think that should work. If you're looking in the hamptons - keep my email address because I can give you names and numbers for the extras. My caterer was the cheapest around and is fabulous!
When are you getting married??
Good luck and please get in touch if I can help!

Thank you for the reply!! I'll take a look at cyberrentals. You're wedding sounds like my DREAM wedding. It sounds so fun and you've got me looking down this road again. We were only days away from booking a reception hall...
We are looking to have our wedding in MAY 2003. My ideal is a backyard/beachfront BBQ type party, you know very laid back where the guests can come in shorts and play volleyball!!
BTW-my email is [email protected] (no i in the princess)...please email me
