Yesterday Danielle and I decided to goto Macy's to register. We already started registering at Fortunoffs and Danielle thought it would be good to register at Macys too because there are alot of people coming from out of state that dont have access to a fortunoffs.
I thought we should register at Bed bath and beyond but she thought it was better to go to Macys....
Anyway we got to Sunrise mall after sitting in traffic for 30 minutes....we get a spot and go into Macys to only find out the Bridal Registry person is off on Sundays...and we cannot register. We can call her or come in one evening after work...I could not believe that they only had one person to register people and that person was off on sundays. Does that woman realize that she works in retail and the weekends are a busy time, espeically with people that want to register???
So on our way out we called Macys in Roosevelt field and they said to come right in. We got there and both Bridal registry people were busy, so we decided to use the computer to register. Well the computer locked up in the middle of our registering...So we called the number on the phone that was there for service, and the person that answered said to ask one of the people that works there to help us. I could of figured that on my own....
So we finally get someone to help us after waiting for 20 minutes and she tries to unlock the computer doing the same exact things that we did...even after I told her the key board was locked up. She tells us to not worry about leaving your personal information on the computer because it gets shut off at night...>So anyway...She tells us that she will register us.
After going through her whole Shpeel and telling us that she will set us up for online Macys registry...Which i tried today and it doesnt work of course....She gives us a gun and we go on our way....
So we start to looka round...and we find some stuff to register for, and guess what....the gun stops working....by now we were really frustrated. We figured sunday was just a waste of a day....I knew we shouldnt of gone there.
We ended up registering for a few good items there...but we still havent found our casual plates yet...and we cannot find a design that we like...
Where are some of the places everyone has registered at?

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
I had the same problem at Macys (I had my main registry at Fortunoffs, but wanted to accommodate those who didn't have one near them). I removed most of the items from the Macys registry and switched over to Bed Bath & Beyond. Everytime we went to Macys they were understaffed, had 1 or 2 scanners that we had to wait over an hour for, and from my previous experiences with others' registrys - - have a habit of not having items in-stock.

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
Wow, sorry you had such a hard time. Macy's was great with us. They were wonderful with returns too when we got duplicates because people forgot to scan them off the registry. The one that was a pain in the butt was JC Penney. We had to exchange something and the woman gave us such a hard time insisting that we had the wrong gift receipt and we had the right one. Plus the store had no air conditioning (Not sure if it broke or what the problem was) and it was so warm, the cashier was extremely irritated and rude. We also registered at Bed,Bath & Beyond but few people went there. Most people went to Macys.

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
We registered at BB&B and Macy's. We had a relatively easy time. Half of me likes that we used BB&B because if we get doubles they'll give us the cash back (very cool on their part). Also the one I went to (Not sure the town...it's in Westchester near a Sym's) had a section just for registering and it was a big section with a big desk and the girls were awesome. They had alot of fine china too, there. But we weren't too jazzed about the casual china there, so we ended up going to Macy's (also Roosevelt Field) and we actually registered for the fine and casual china there. Your best bet is to go on a Monday night. Seriously. No one is there on a Monday night. Weekends are horrible. And holidays? Don't even bother!! But the great part about registering at Macy's is that they have those super sales and if your friends/family buy off your registry then, they will save a fortune on some stuff. That's why I did it there. They don't give cash for returns though, only store credit. But you can keep the credits for when they have super sales and buy clothes, etc.
You can also add things from their websites but doesn't seem advantageous- it seems that what macy's has on the website is like 30% of what they have in the stores.
Roosevelt Field is a great place to register in that they have a ton of selection but not good in terms of busy-ness. I started mine there but finished it at the one in Yonkers, on a Monday night.
I don't know much about Fortunoff's....to be honest I've hardly gone into that store. Only around Christmastime. But don't forget if they put registries online your guests can order gifts that way.

Fortunoffs is a great store to shop at...I love it there. And they have tons of stuff to register for. I just don't recommend working there lol. I worked there for a year and a half as a cashier....I would much rather shop there.

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
Definetely stick with Fortunoff's-- MACY'S is so difficult to deal with--the past few of my friends to get married registered @ MACY'S and it was nothing sort of a nightmare everytime we went to get a gift--they never have anything or anyone to help you find the nothing they have! LOL Fortunoff's makes it so easy-we went last weekend to add some stuff and they were so many people asking us if we needed help and that was on a saturday night! they have free gift wrapping which is so convenient for your guests and they always take the items right off the registry!

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
Yup....This is why Fortunoffs is such a great store....They have plety of sales help and many services including free Gift wrapping. Most stores do not have those services. When we went to Macy's it wasnt that busy there and there were no sales people around.

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
Danielle is a luck gal to have such a great FI that takes notice of such things when registering. I was lucky to just be able to get my DH to step into the store...nevertheless look at things and pick things out.

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
We've heard similar horror stories about Macy's, along with the fact that they don't get things off the registry so numerous people have ended up with duplicates! We're doing Cratee & Barrel, Fortunoff, and for the people who don't have access to those 2, BB&B!
I think you would be better off at BBBY...just for returning issues...although who can't use up store credit in Macys?

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
I had similar problems with Linnens and Things so I don't recommend them to anyone!! I had quite a few things discontinued and no one contacted me to tell me. I can go on and on about how bad they are.....I registered at Macys in Commack. I was happy with the selection but the stemware I registered for are never in stock! It would have taken weeks for them to come in so needless to say, I didn't get any. I did get some duplicates from both stores so I am hoping that I won't have a hard time getting a credit for them.

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
My FH now registers for stuff via online without me noticing. heh He loves it. He too, is very involved with the planning. Been to every meeting and every event. Even the ordering and deposit of the dress (nope he didnt see it).
Im very lay back and casual about this but even so, he grounds me in the planning. Makes a great boucing board too!
We registered at Target & Williams-Sonoma. Mostly Target. We wanted to put lots of stuff on and not feel guilty about asking people to buy it. Mostly for us the idea was, this is a wish list. If we get it, great, if not, oh well. We didn't put anything on the list that we wouldnt buy for ourselves anyway. We are very conservative with money. Macy's just annoys me when I have to deal with them. Now Bloomingdales is great to work with not not really practical for us as a registry.

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
My FH went to Macy's to buy something off the registry. He told the cashier that he couldn't find it- it was a toaster or something. She pointed him to the wall of toasters. Long story short- they had a big to do about how he knew where the toasters were but couldn't find the one his friend wanted. I think he just got fed up and walked out and bought the present someplace else. We registered there about 3 years ago for our good silverware, everyday silverware and good china. - everything has since been bought. I don't think we will go there for the rest of our stuff.

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
We did fortunoffs, and BB&B on line. Macys in person. We waited before helped, but once we did it went well. We did have a problem with items sent to our old address, but they are reshipping to our new address, after I had to call.
we had a hard time with Casual too. Wound up deciding on a neutral tan,,,,,but then my mom got us BEAUTIFUL set for casual dinnerware for e-party. I have to find a picture on line to post.

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
We have been looking for casual dinner ware and couldnt find anything. I found one on fortunoff.com that we both like. We are going to goto the store tomorrow to check it out in person. If we like it, we will register for it. Casual China
As for Fine China, we werent planning on getting any. We were just going to get Casual China and then get regular plates to use for everyday...but we went to Fortunoffs and saw a set that was being discontinued....For a 12 pc setting....For $299.99. So i think we are just going to buy that...since we cant register for it. It is white with a fine silver line going around the plate rim, bowl rim, cup rim etc....

Re: Macy's Registering nightmare
We had a similar situation with Macy's as well. We mainly registered at Fortunoff's (my favorite store) and William's and Sonoma.
