Maid of Honor vs Matron of Honor

Maid of Honor vs Matron of Honor

Is there a difference? I was thinking about giving my sister one of the roles b/c she is my sis. I already have a MOH who is a lot more responsible and helpful than my sister. My sister is a flake and I wouldn't trust her with anything b/c she would leave it all to the last minute. And cause me stress! Which she does already in her daily life. However, we have gotten closer in the last year and she adores Carl. I want her to have a special role in the BP rather than being a BM.

No difference in duties. The title changes to Matron if the girl you choose is married. A lot of people have both and some have one or the other. I will be having a Matron. Edited to say you can have TWO Maid of Honors, they can share the duty!

A Maid of Honor is not married, a matron of honor is married.

Just like what was said, a maid is not married, a matron is. You can either have one of each or two of one - 2 maids or 2 matrons. They are both OK. (My mom pulled out her etiquette book this weekend and I was browsing. That was one of the topics.)

I have two Maid of Honors. Two very important women in my life who are not married! My sister, who is also a little clueless at weddings- she is 22- and my best friend, who is my age, and is capable of organizing and understanding the parties and my other friends.... I am really happy I did this! It will look great, my sister will be less stressed, my best friend feels (and is) totally important and everything is getting done now!

Thanks ladies. So my flaky sister (she calls herself a flake this is how bad she is!) would be the Maid of Honor and my friend the Matron (she is married). Got it!

Liz I was waiting for you to respond! I know you have a large wedding party. I don't know how you do it. To try to get 5 ladies together for me is like pulling teeth out!

Re: Maid of Honor vs Matron of Honor

Hey wanda
I dont know either, well I do. I dont really ask much from them. Only to look and act beautiful, and to be on time, and cooperate w/me on the plans. And to surprise me with a kick-a$$ bridal shower, of course. I kicked out the problem members already, and now it seems to be smooth sailing

I also will add that my Godmother and her twin (in their late 40s) are also walking, but both are divorced, so they are wearing something different from the rest of the BP. I didnt want 3 matrons, so I am simply putting 'Godmother of the Bride' for both of them. They will be first in the procession.

One is married, the other isn't. You could have as many as you want of each... it's your day. Do what you want!

I did the exact same thing as Sept20Yay - my sister is younger and not up on the wedding stuff, so I made her my Maid of Honor. I made my best frined my matron - she is getting married this Saturday and I'm her MOH so it worked out well!!

I was in the same situation...i love my sister but she is only 17 and i cannot depend on her at all...so i ended up with two maids of honor.
But, to warn you...my sister was really upset by the fact that i have 2 maids of honor and constantly makes references to that fact...
if i ask her to do someting or make a comment about something she will always respond 'why don't you ask your other maid of honor'
