Mailboxes for envelops?

Most people wrap a box or you can use a really pretty hat box with a slit in the top. It is normally placed near the head table (yours). But I don't (just MY opinion) like this idea. I feel like it says to guests, 'You are here to give me a gift so please place it in this box'. You know what I mean. I think that you can have a small bridal bag or have your Dad and husband put the envelops in their jacket pockets. Also, I have heard (not first hand) stories of the mailbox disappearing during the reception. The reception staff knows what is inside and I guess, some people are just not very good-hearted and take it or take envelopes out when no one is watching. My idea, is to see your guests. They are there for you to share the day with. Personally thank them when they hand you a gift. But again, just my opinion on the subject. Everyone needs to decide what is best for them.

I am having a cottage not a mailbox ...

It's this decorated cottage and it's so beautiful. The lady who is making it is putting a lock on it - so it's secure and it will be beautifully displyed on a table next to ours. I wanted something to keep the envelopes in but I wanted it to be beautiful and classy! Some girls carry around a purse - but I know that I'll lose that or put it down somewhere - where it will be easier for someone to take it or a few envelopes out. MY FH can't fit all the envelopes in his jacket and he is likely to take that off too. This was my solution. Good lUck!

Still be careful

Even with a lock, the entire box can be taken. I would want to be able to keep an eye on it. I would also not want guests to put gifts into it and walk away. I want to thank them personally. Maybe you can have it placed in your bridal suite and then taken out 1 hour before the reception ends and put near your table. That way you put the gifts into it, not the guests, and you don't have to worry about it being 'lost'

Meet and greet the guest....

I was told by my FMIL that it is rude not to greet every guest. I will have a large purse with a draw string and take it along as I greet all the guests. After I will give it to my Grandmother who will not move the whole night to hold. I feel safer this way. Also I went to a wedding where the bride and groom didn't greet everyone and alot of people were very upset and didn't leave a gift at all. They just had a 'gift Table' and mailbox. What ever you chose just be careful.

Mailboxes for envelops?

Do not like the box idea for the same reasons Michele31 mentioned. However, it Is cumbersome all those envelopes and I was scrambling at the last 1/2 hour of the wedding for something to put them in. I think the best idea is a box wrapped like a gift, so that guests will actually think it is a gift and NOT put cards in there themselves, placed under the table of your parents or other designated person. We did not get to go around to each table during the reception so we made sure to say goodbye and thank you to our guests which is when most give cards. They do pile up so you can always politely excuse yourself every so often to drop off some into the box and then return to mingle again.

another idea

I wrapped a big box to look like a really pretty gift. The bow on top was fairly big and a cut an opening in it that was right behind the bow so it couldn`t be seen (but large enough to put a few envelopes at a time) It was on a small table next to our table along with chocolate bars I made and a few other gifts that guests brought. None of the guests knew it was a card holder so they did not 'deposit' their cards in it, which is exactly how we wanted it. It was just somewhere safe to hold all the cards in one place as we received them. They can so easily get lost just put in a jacket pocket and a bag will get heavy and you will inevitably want to put it down to dance to a great song. You can pass them off to a family member but then they have to guard them. I hear what it being said about watching out anyway and agree but for us, between me, my hubby, my family, his family, we were able to keep an eye on it and felt that they were all in a safe place. Good luck everyone.

another idea *Thanks again Elizabeth

We used Elizabeth's idea and it worked out perfectly. When either my DH or I had a few card we deposited them in our gift box. I have been to weddings where there were mailboxes and birdcages and guest were sort of put off by them. IMHO they are just too impersonal.

Mailboxes for envelops?colleen when is the wedding

I am using a bird cage and keeping it on the dias so it will be in our view and our parents at all times right behind the flowers.....colleen when is your wedding...?? I decided to buy the bird cage it was on sale for 52.00 and is 35.00 to rent, this way I just take the whole thing home and dont have to worry about where to put all the cards... so maybe you can borrow or buy mine for like 20 bucks lol, its cheaper than the rental

I intend to collect cards as I great and place them in ...

the cottage on the dias too. It's to heavy for someone to just take, plus I too will have my grandparents and family keep an eye on it. Plus, no one can slip their hand in it to take just one card. I thought it was a nice idea and a pretty accent for the table! :-) Lots of Luck everyone!

We used Elizabeth's idea also!

When Elizabeth originally posted about her gift box idea, I thought it was a terrific. I looked at some of the mailboxes you could either buy or rent and not only were they expensive but also they look sort of tacky. I had been trying to find another alternative and Elizabeth's idea was it. We kept the box at a table that was behind our table and it looked like the other gifts. When we went to talk to people they gave us the envelopes and we would then take them back and put them in the box. It truly is a great idea! Thanks Elizabeth.
