$800??? How many people are you having? It's amazing how extras start popping up. I have read $2-5 for Maitre D' is good. You're spending so much as is and then having to put an extra $800 is amazing.

Re: Maitre D Tip?!?!

I think thats just the suggestion they make! If I were you I'd base your tip on your Maitre'd's (sp?) performance that day! I think I will be giving mine between $450-500....Give what you feel he/she deserves!!! Don't let your RH pressure you into giving more than you think you should give!!

hth!

the norm is $3 to $5 a person...

but those are suggestions the hall gives you.. go with what you feel is appropriate...

Re: Maitre D Tip?!?!

it just seems crazy to me! an $800 tip for one person! its a tip, im not paying his salery! and im already paying 18% gratuity on the bill. so insane. but im afraid if i dont tip him that much he'll do a sh*ty job.

This is what I was told as well, everyone else's tip was included except for the Maitre'd 3-5 pp.

Our hall recommended $300-500. I think we tipped $350. We didn't have that many people (130).

My hall told us $3-$6 per person for maitre d tip and then in the end they told us that we have to tip the Captain also. I ened up tipping him $700. He reallly worked hard and everything went perfect. I never saw the captain so I gave him $100 only. Then of course the bridal attendant well I think she deserved more then everyone she was supper woman. So in the end I gave her $500 but I wise I would have given her more.

I think you tip at the end of the night. so his job would've already been done.....

Re: Maitre D Tip?!?!

it is included in our contract at $2pp, which comes to about 280. anything more thant $300 to $500 is crazy unless they went above and beyond. keep in mind they get paid well to do this job!

no, you pay gratuity (should be included in the contract) and that goes to the rest of the staff. the maitre'd fee is separate.

I was told to tip 400-500 for a wedding of 70 people--no way!

I am doing 3.00 a person. So int hat case it would be $210.00. So I will probably will give him $250-300.

I will have to see how he does.
